Anybody else's DH got a low sperm count? Does it make much difference?

DH has been told he's got a count of 17 million. We were told that 20 million is the bottom end of normal. Does this mean that 17 is low? It doesn't sound too bad - surely one of the blighters can swim?!

Other question - as it's lower than normal do we need to save it up before ovulation, and if so, for how many days?

Anything else he should be doing? He's taking zinc.

My DH has a high sperm count- 117 million per ml but low morphology (6%).

I think you should also take the morphology and motility into account- the count alone means little.

Did you have any treatment to have DC? how long have you been trying?

My DH has seven times the normal amount of sperm but only one seventh the amount of semen as normal, so the little buggers have nothing to swim in and most of them dry out before making it to the cervix.

In spite of this, I'm pregnant for the fourth time (2 mc, one DD and now 22 weeks pregnant). Honestly I think the majority of men have a sperm issue of one sort or another and mostly you only get to know about it when conception is delayed.

But to promote sperm health: cut out alcohol, lots of fruit and veg, vits obviously, acupuncture can help, looser pants, cutting out cycling etc. All sorts of stuff.

But the best thing is having lots and lots of sex!

My DH has a low sperm count, but 17 million swimmers per ml of semen sounds positively abundant compared to the "severely low sperm count" and around less than 2 million per ml that were found in my DH's test results. We are still trying after 15+ months.

Interpreting male fertility is more than sperm numbers, as others on the thread have mentioned, although more is obviously better. morphology (whether they are properly formed), motiliy (whether they swim strongly and in a striaght line), the pH etc are all important too. If you have one DC that chances are looking good
