TTC after mc at 8 weeks - bleeding/ovulation?!

I had a mc at 8 weeks and an MVA at 8+6 almost 3 weeks ago (will be 3 weeks on Thursday). Dr said bleeding would probably last 2 weeks but I’m still having light spotting. I’m desperate to ttc again and just wondered if anyone has experienced similar and if so, when did you ovulate?

Hello, our timeframe is almost identical - my MVA was the Friday tho.
I had very little bleeding after. I did a pregnancy test on Friday when it was three weeks and there was no hcg. I also like you would like to TTC again and did a CB ovulation test and had a flashing smile since Friday until today. We decided to DTD but now I’m bleeding and I don’t know it’s my period, something wrong or DTD! It’s just a really rubbish time isn’t it? Have you tested your HCG level because you won’t ovulate until that is definitely out of your system xx

Compsearch · 12/03/2024 20:22

Thanks for the reply @MerryBrickHelper - did you say you were 3 weeks post MVA last Friday? I was 2 weeks last Thursday, will be 3 this week (so 19 days past it today).

I haven’t done a pregnancy test because I can’t bear to see the result either way, but I know I should just do it.

The bleeding I’ve been having is like EWCM but with brown blood in it, and only really when I wipe. What is your recent bleeding like?

I’m worried though that even if I ovulate soon my lining wouldn’t be thick enough to sustain a pregnancy because of the bleeding, but maybe that’s not right. I’ve got some ovulation tests lying around so maybe will do one and go from there.

I had a MMC with MVA at 8+5 in May 2022. Ovulated four weeks later, period two weeks after that. I bled for about three weeks after the MVA and then again randomly between ovulation and period.

It is worth testing to make sure the HcG is out of your system. If it isn't then there may be retained products, but also if you know the tests have gone negative then if you get a positive test later you know it's a new pregnancy.

Sorry to hear about your MC. I had surgical management under GA 5 weeks ago this Thursday. I got a negative pregnancy test just over 2 weeks later and patiently waited for either bleeding or ovulation. I've been doing ovulation tests since I had a faint line on the pregnancy test so initially it showed high LH (picking up the hcg and then went to low) I just got my peak ovulation yesterday and had ewcm so think I definitely have ovulated. We should probably have waited but I don't want to waste a month so dtd a couple of times and what will be will be!
I've wondered about the lining too but I've read positive stories about people conceiving straight away and having successful pregnancie so fingers crossed!

soymilknosugar · 12/03/2024 20:33

sorry for your loss x
it took me 4 weeks to get a negative test after my surgery then 2 weeks after that to ovulate. Hope things happen quickly for you.

Compsearch · 12/03/2024 20:35

Wow @soymilknosugar 4 weeks is quite a long time - I really need to do a pregnancy test then to double check.

Sorry to all of you who have posted for your losses - it is completely rubbish.

Best of luck @jellyfish2 - keeping everything crossed for you!

@Compsearch prepare yourself for both results on the pregnancy test. I felt so sad when I saw the second line as before the MC it was such an exciting time but to know it was positive when I had no baby there was torture. But then when it was negative I also felt really sad, in a different way I suppose. Difficult to explain but the whole situation is just awful.

MerryBrickHelper · 13/03/2024 08:51

@Melusina123 after my MVA I had no bleeding.

I had my MVA on 16th Feb so just coming up to a month now. My HCG levels are back to 0 but in the last two days I’ve started to bleed. Could it be my period? Or do you think I should contact my GP or EPU?

MerryBrickHelper · 13/03/2024 08:54

@Compsearch I would definitely test- I waited for the three weeks to pass..but now I wish I had tested more because I’m worried I missed ovulation and now I’ve gotten my period?! It’s all so confusing and adds to what is a really crap time!

Compsearch · 13/03/2024 12:00

Yes, you are right - I will try to get hold of a test today.

The bleeding/spotting has stopped now, 20 days on. I really hope my body starts to gear up to ovulate again soon.

How are you feeling today @MerryBrickHelper?

OP posts:
MerryBrickHelper · 13/03/2024 15:01

@Compsearch did you manage to test?
I am ok, this bleeding has just thrown me in a bit of a loop. I spoke to the EPU and they think it’s my period returning- can’t believe it’s returned so quickly, don’t feel convinced but I guess if it’s 4 weeks on Friday it could come back a few days earlier?

Compsearch · 13/03/2024 15:29

Hi @MerryBrickHelper. I’m sorry you’re worried. I’d say that if there is nothing unusual about the bleeding (ie not heavier than normal and no pain other than normal period cramps) it’s probably nothing to worry about, especially if EPU weren’t concerned. It’s a good thing if it is your period as looks like things are returning to normal.

I don’t have any tests at home and am wfh today so haven’t had a chance to buy one. Will get one tomorrow. I did an ovulation test this morning though and it was negative so I think that means hcg must be low as the LH strips usually also pick up hcg?

I just so desperately want to be pregnant again.

I was bleeding for 3 weeks but I naturally passed everything. I ovulated a couple days after and got first period right on time. It’s definitely a bit off so I would recommend waiting a cycle to make sure your lining is thick enough for a potential pregnancy. (I’m guessing my lining didn’t get thick during first cycle as I had no cramps and no clots).

MerryBrickHelper · 13/03/2024 16:06

@Compsearch I know how you feel 🥺 how long have you been TTC? For us it’s been two years so we were so delighted when we got the BFP in Jan- all just feels abit cruel! You’ve done well to go back to work- I go back on Monday!

@emmatcc1 I think I’m just struggling with - I didn’t bleed at all after my MVA and I feel my period has returned so quickly and it’s light! I was expecting to have like you say clots, cramps and have a really horrible period after the MC?

emmatcc1 · 13/03/2024 16:38

@MerryBrickHelper I was also expecting that but for me it took a whole day to go from spotting to bleeding, I did then
bleed a lot for the next two days but just thin blood not like a period. I’m now on day 5 still bleeding more than usual.

Compsearch · 13/03/2024 17:17

Oh @MerryBrickHelper Im so sorry to hear that - I think after a mc you are supposed to be more fertile so fingers crossed for you.

We weren’t trying very long and this would be DC3 for us, but I’m worried about the age gap with my other kids and had already started to imagine how this baby would fit into our family. I’m also 37 so time is not on my side.

OP posts:
Compsearch · 04/04/2024 10:58

Just thought I’d update in case helpful
for anyone else. My period arrived 4 weeks to the day after my mc, so I think I ovulated about 2 weeks after the mc. That makes sense as I was having red tinged ewcm at about the 2 week mark which I put down to weird mc bleeding at the time.
