How do I induce a period?

I have had pretty regular cycles the past year, but back in August I had an early miscarriage and since then my cycles have been a bit all over the place. They still arrived, but a few days off the usual. Then my period just disappeared.

It has been 60 days without a period, I haven't had even a hint of ovulation - no cm changes, no BBT shift, only very faint lines on OPK. At this point I just want to bleed and reset - I don't know what is going on.

I feel like I need to kickstart my hormones again, as this has happened to me once before after a loss and I didn't get a period for like 80 days, and I'd rather not wait so long.

You need to take the progesterone only pill for 5 days then stop and see if you have a withdrawal bleed. If not you might need to take the combined pill for a short while then stop to see if that works. There’s also the option of then using clomid to induce ovulation but you need a period first. I think. Not medical but been through similar. Look up “progesterone challenge” or ask your doctor. Good luck.

I drank red raspberry tea and it kick started my periods
Alternatively in past I've used noristherone or provera to induce a bleed but I'd probably ask gp for bloods first to see what exactly the issue is

This happened to me last year after a miscarriage, I went 2 months with no period and no sign of ovulation. I used progesterone cream for a week then my period arrived 2 days later. I conceived again that cycle. Sadly ended in another miscarriage but I believe the progesterone cream helped my cyle to return.

Its worth a try. Good luck 🤞

Thank you all. I have gotten the progesterone only pill and am now taking it. I remember that I do get bleeding when I used to take the morning after pill, which as far as I’m aware was just progesterone for delaying ovulation. I’ll take it for 5 days then stop and see.

I forgot to say that I do have mild pcos so every now and then will get anovulation. That month I got pregnant was my first time trying soy isoflavones to make sure I ovulated, and I did. But it ended in that early miscarriage. I am going to try them again once I can induce a bleed. Just worried it is somehow linked to miscarriage as I have never had that before.

Glad it worked for you.
Have a read up on Agnus Castus, soo if that could be of help to you, it helped with my period stability and with conception too.
Good luck

Fantastic! If you don’t ovulate you can ask for clomid now you have an actual cycle to work with.

Thanks. I'm going to try soy isoflavones again. I tried it once before and did get pregnant (had a very strong ovulation) but had an early loss. I got a bit spooked after thinking the soy might have caused the loss, but I will give it another go.

Hi. I know this is an older post but wondered if your natural cycles came back? I had an early miscarriage in March and have been prescribed medroxyprogesterone as I haven’t had a cycle since March. We are TTC. My periods were regular prior to conceiving and then just disappeared!

I have had ultrasounds which show potential PCOS but Drs think it’s due to my anovulation. I’m not going to start taking the meds until we come back off holiday as we’re going to Sicily in 5 days and don’t really want a period whilst away!

Would be interested to see what happened to someone else who has been in the same boat 🩷

Hiya, I used progesterone only pill to induce my period. Took it for 5 days and then stopped, and my period came about a week later.

about soy isoflavones though - never use this. I did try it again as per my post and I got an ectopic pregnancy due to being hyper stimulated by the soy. I had no idea, wasn’t being monitored, my womb filled with fluid and it blocked my egg from implanting in there. I have never touched soy again so just wanted to put the warning out there :)

but yes you can induce a period using a progesterone only pill. Your period may still take some time to come after you stop taking it though, like up to 10 days. Good luck

and yes after inducing my natural cycles came back monthly. :)

I’m so pleased to hear your cycles came back! I think my body just needs a little reset so hoping this will do the trick ❤️

Are you still TTC? X
