Copper coil removal, period issues

Hey ladies, I’m posting here as iv searches the internet and only found a couple of posts from over 10 years ago.
i had my copper coil removed in October last year after a combined total of 12 years in with the idea of TTC.
Ever since starting my periods iv always been super heavy, to the point I would ruin clothes even with a tampon and pad in place. Had could put in 13 years ago and nothing changed. Had it removed in October last year and pretty much instantly lost my periods apart from a little light spotting on one day a month. Is there anyone else out there that went through this? I’m going out of my mind.

Hello yes i did! Had it removed in september after having it in for 8 years and my final month it moved so i had to get it out.

Since then my periods have been SO light and only really 3 days at the most long.

Same. I had mine 6 years and removed in December. 2.5-3 day periods.

Hello. I had light ish periods then when I had the copper coil they got super heavy which I was warned was a side effect. After having it removed the returned to 2-3 days of bleeding.

Could it have just been the coil making your periods heavier?

Duckgirl · 08/03/2024 16:35

@ToeBeans24 no my periods where always super heavy ever since starting. Now they are next to nothing.

@MoiraRosesOtherDaughter im so sorry you are going through this too! Has your doctor given any help or advice?

@Fingerscrossed88 have yours got any better? I’m terrified I’m not going to be able to conceive.

Honestly I think I just forgot what it was like to have normal periods. As when I was on the copper coil I had cramps and alot of bleeding which I learnt isn't normal if yourr not on the coil. I think our bodies are just going back to an easy cycle

My first 3 cycles off the coil were all over the place and now touchwood its all back to normal.

I totally sympathise with you as I panicked too about them changing but I did alot of research and more women then you think find their periods going mad after! The copper coil thins your lining etc. I tracked my bbt after and saw ovulation on there.

Please don't worry, I am totally sure you're body is settling down. 10 years is a long time! xxxx

Thank you @Fingerscrossed88. it was 12 in total but iv always had heavy periods even from the age of 9. Now I don’t even have enough for a panty liner. (Sorry for the TMI) it’s been 6 months now so I hope it changes soon. Weirdly I really miss them
