Conception / Period Question from a worried man

Hi,

After some help and reassurance if possible.

I had condom protected sex with a friend of mine on day two of her period.

Her period is now 11 days late, we have tested seven times (last one first wee of this morning) with various home tests and all negative.

My friend can have strange cycles after long haul travel, she did travel in October, had a 10 day light bleed in December and was a week late for her January cycle; her normal bleed is three days.

We are both 41 years old.

Given it was protected sex on day two of her cycle, and that we have these negative tests up to and including day 11 post her period due date, and that we had sex 39 days ago, am I worrying unnecessarily?

Any thoughts welcome. Thanks

Yes you are, if by a miracle she had conceived through protected sex out with the fertile window you would have had a positive pregnancy test by now

Highly unlikely that she's pregnant, especially if irregular cycles are normal for her

It sounds unlikely but people can ovulate straight after period. Hope you get some clearer answers soon, and either way there will be a solution.

I think you're very safe here. If the condom had split in some invisible way, and if the sperm had survived the max 14 days, then you would still be 25 days post conception, which would show positive on a test (tests can show positive as little as 9/10 days past conception).

41 is also potentially perimenopausal, which plays havoc with regular cycles.

Hi,

still no period as yet, although we did another test yesterday (41 days post sex, 13 days after period due date)

Cramps are still there but no bleed as yet.

any further thoughts on this very welcome - thank you.

She's not pregnant. Sperm can only last 5 days, plus the time until implantation latest 14 days, then 2 days for enough hormones to show up on a test. Making it 21 days past sex that is the latest possible chance of a false negative result.

At 41 I would suggest she's perimenopausal .

If you had sex on day 2 then she would have been actually menstruating - really really unlikely to conceive at that time.

Another vote for not pregnant

Thank you all for your responses, really do appreciate it.

we have done another test this morning, 44 days post sex and now 16 days after when her period should have started.

she has had cramps for about ten days as if her period is about to start, but nothing at all has happened.

Could it be that the tests (now 11 of them) are not picking up the HCG or that the hook phenomenon is happening?

she has had no sickness / nausea etc.

any further thoughts really welcome….

@user1480030038 she's not pregnant!

Sounds like either you or her want her to be though.

Just realised I can reply lol

absolutely not, I am the worrier, she has been so kind with reassuring me.

its my own fault, I don’t normally have sex outside of a commited relationship.

thanks again for your reply
