Advice: CD42, BFN's - do I wait longer?

Hi all,

Long time reader of MumsNet, first-time poster and looking for some advice/experiences, please.

For context - I am 31 years old and at present CD42, with last AF occurring on 31st December 2023. I have regular periods every month but cycles do alternate in days between 28-32 days (so, an average of every 30 days). I do not routinely skip AF's and have been TTC with my husband for baby number 2 (DC is 6 years old). However, I have tested on a few occasions and the results appear as BFN's on a range of HPT's.

What I'm looking to understand is whether I should continue testing over the coming days and there is still a possibility of a BFP on the horizon (could still be too soon for an accurate result to appear?) - or, whether it would be worth making an appointment with the doctor? I'm just a bit confused on what to do next and don't want to be laughed at by a doctor for reaching out if it's still too soon to check!

Any thoughts/advice would be very welcome and thank you for sharing in advance! 😊

Hey, I am in the exact same position right now. This is our first month ttc and decided to do it naturally (no OPKs or BBT). My last af (albeit a very short one, 2 days) was 1st Jan so I am now CD42 with constant BFNs and AF no where in sight.

The difference with me is that I have just turned 42, my cycles can be irregular and I haven't been pregnant before. I have had a lot of very unusual symptoms over the past few weeks and have no idea what to think.

I am going to give it another week or so and if I don't have a BFP or AF, I am going to contact my GP.

Would love to hear what happens with you. Fingers crossed you have a BFP on the way 🤞🤞✨️ x x

Hi @BeckyPfromLeeds!

Lovely to hear from you.

Update from me is that AF very unexpectedly arrived this afternoon. Had absolutely no inclination she was on her way and was quite unexpected to say the least!

I did have a bit of a cry this morning but put that down to the stress of not knowing (should have guessed lol). At least I have my answer now and we start again.

Ive seen other success stories here of ladies getting their BFP’s much later down the line and from someone who’s been equally frustrated, please don’t lose hope. It ain’t over until AF sings! Sending lots of sticky baby dust your way and please feel free to keep me posted on your journey 💕 xx

Awww, that sucks!! But at least you can move on now.

I've had a few shooting pains in my right nipple this afternoon and some cramps but I'm still none the wiser. Will deffo keep you updated.

Babydust for your next cycle ✨️✨️

Still nothing this morning although I have been using OPKs for the past week as well just to see what's happening there. It was double that it has been, so maybe it is on the rise and I am going to ovulate soon. If not, I have no idea what's going on x x
