Expired test...can I trust it?

I'm really sorry if this is a stupid question but I know there are many experts on here!

I've got to have a tooth removed on Saturday and just thought I ought to check in case I can't take certain painkillers after.

I only have these cheapy tests strips from my previous pregnancy, and just realised they're expired but thought I'd do it anyway. Can I trust this result?
We are TTC so it wouldn't be unexpected but I don't know if these tests are reliable.

My period would be due tomorrow, I have some crampy pain but no bleeding.

Go and get an in date test, but tentative congratulations.

I'd say this line is dark enough to indicate a pregnancy but I have no experience of expired tests, I can't see what about it could expire that would give such a clear positive if it was false. Obviously you just need to buy a new test.

Perhaps just buy a test for peace of mind? I imagine there's a reason they have an expiry date.

Thank you all. The only pharmacy open after I finished work didn't have any tests! And then had to rush to nursery pick-up and couldn't face shops with a hangry child. Will get a proper one tomorrow if period doesn't come.

My expired test (I think it was about 6 months out) looked very similar and the result is now nearly 16 months old… my understanding is that you’re more likely to get a false negative on an expired test, but a positive is very likely to be exactly that. Hopeful congratulations! x

For anyone searching for this in future, it was confirmed with a non-expired test.

Thank you. First one upthread was 13dpo, latest one is 15dpo by the time I could get my hands on a test.
