Acupuncture Side Effects

Hello Smile I wanted to see if anyone has had any negative side effects to acupuncture when TTC?

My cycle tends to be 32 days long and usually works like clockwork. However, I'm now 7 days late with no sign of my period. I've taken multiple tests pregnancy tests, all negative.

In addition to the delayed period, I had quite severe cramping for two weeks. This isn't the norm for me during my cycle.

I've cancelled my next acupuncture appointment because I want to wait for my period. I'm concerned I've messed with things and have put my cycle out of whack.

Keen to hear about if anyone else has had anything similar.

Thanks!

Will be interesting to hear. I have just started acupuncture to help with my lining, not seeing any benefit yet, but only on 2 sessions.

Also interested to hear

@SAUNDER may I ask why you considered acupuncture in the first place (genuine question) ?

I've had acupuncture on and off for about 8 months now and never had any adverse side effects - it's actually definitely helped my periods to normalise after coming off the pill. But everyone is different! I think I have heard that sometimes acupuncture can make you feel 'worse' before you feel better because all the toxins / stress / inflammation etc is leaving your system?! But I wouldn't have thought it should mess up your cycle like this...

I personally did not experience any change in cycle after acupuncture

Hi all,

Thanks for your responses and apologies for the delay getting back to you!

My period finally arrived on day 38 of my cycle, and wasn't the normal 4 red days that I'd usually have.

The reason I went was after hearing a few friends TTC had gone with success... or coincidence. Who knows!

I decided to hold off on acupuncture for the time being. I really didn't like all the cramps and delayed cycle it gave me.

I'm in the process of waiting on my husbands second sperm analysis. Count and mobility both good, but morphology needs some improvement. So I feel focusing on diet/lifestyle for him, and for myself is the priority for now.

Thanks

@SAUNDER hey, sorry to jump on this so late.

But been searching for other people who might have experienced the same thing as me.
I started acupuncture whilst TTC, my cycles were regular, ovulated between the same couple of days each month, period was the same each month, all very predictable.
I started acupuncture and my ovulation day now varies by 8 days, my period is bizarre, and my PMS symptoms are actually worse.
The Acupuncturist did say it can throw things off before they get better, but after 4 months and it being the same every single month I stopped going.
Just wondered if your cycle went back to your normal after you stopped? X

Hey,

I think I ended up doing about 5/6 sessions in total. I didn't find the acupuncture relaxing and because it messed with my regular cycle I felt it was counter productive so I stopped.

My cycle went back to normal relatively quickly after that. I was pregnant about about 4 months after that.

Best of luck!

Congratulations on getting pregnant!

May I ask how long were you ttc before starting acupuncture?
