Late ovulation/short luteul phase

Hi ladies. Looking for some advice. I tend to ovulate quite late in my cycle (around 20/22) and have a short luteal phase (9/10 days). I'm a healthy weight and eat well/exercise regularly etc but wondering if anyone has had a similar issue or knows how to help? TTC since summer, did get pregnant but had a MC at 8 weeks on New Year's Day. Thank you. X

I would speak to your GP because I think a short luteal phase can impact fertility (less time for the womb to thicken to support implantation) and you can get help to lengthen it (progesterone I think?).

I have a short luteal phase. I did successfully get pregnant once but also had a few miscarriages and many months not falling pregnant. Now I am in my forties I believe that maybe cutting carbs and sugar would have had the greatest impact on my cycle as I’m pretty insulin resistant. I did try some supplements but they did really help. An ultrasound showed I was borderline PCOS and I am slim and no other symptoms of pcos so I believe it is the insulin resistant component of it.
min more possible news the month I conceived DS all three of my staggered “day 7 progesterone tests” said I hadn’t ovulated but on the day I got the results of the third one I had a bfp.
In my later issues they said they’d prescribe progesterone but we eventually decided to stop TTG number 2 for a variety of unrelated reasons.good luck.

Hi, I have an identical cycle. Currently pregnant with baby no.2. My cycles used to be 21 days with a very long period and then got longer a few years ago to 28 days, now they're about 32. I have ridiculously low AMH and there's a history of premature ovarian insufficiency in my family with early menopause so that's likely the way I'm headed.

Has your cycle changed in length at all? I would definitely get checked out!

CatmumTTC · 29/01/2024 12:02

I don't think ten days is that short for a luteal phase but no harm in checking with your GP especially given your previous early loss. Though I think they usually don't investigate until you've had a few early losses (which is crazy IMO), they might be willing to do more investigations if you have the data to show ovulation dates etc.

@newusern99 I'm also insulin resistant PCOS and have noticed a huge difference in my mood and energy since taking inositol. So much so that even after TTC I'll keep taking it for general health. Massively helps with sugar cravings.

newusern99 · 29/01/2024 12:18

@CatmumTTC there was another post on MN about a lady who successfully fell pregnant after seven years ttc (one ?) month after starting myo-inositol.

Ella31 · 29/01/2024 12:24

I ovulate around cycle day 20 and my luteal phase is usually 10/11 days. Got naturally pregnant with twins with it.

4LeafCloverBaby · 29/01/2024 15:30

I increased my luteal phase with vitamins from 10-13 days & now I’m pregnant x

shohopeful · 29/01/2024 15:50

@4LeafCloverBaby congratulations! That's amazing. Can you tell me what vitamins you have been taking? I'm 34 and only been doing this since the summer and now worrying about age

@shohopeful Thank you 😊 I did a lot of research and took the below vitamins. I’m 37. I started taking these 3 months before I started trying & I fell pregnant on my 2nd cycle. I also wrote a post called “Early preg. Symptoms & how I got my bfp” if you search it on here it might be helpful. X

*I used the fertility cup for my first cycle trying & it didn’t work so I didn’t bother on this cycle & ended up pregnant.
*We used a little bit of pre-seed but I didn’t insert it into me with the syringe…just used like usual lube.

BBT
I took my BBT every morning at 7.30 for the last 4 months, 2 months before we started trying just so I could understand what to expect. My BBT dropped down the day before my period in Oct & then on the day of my period in Nov & Dec. On my BFP cycle in Jan it increased the day before my period was due, up to the top end of my luteal phase temperature. I didn’t get an implantation dip & I didn’t get any implantation bleeding.

Vitamins
I’m 37 so I wanted to start taking vitamins to help in any way I could. I found that a lot of the prenatal vitamins didn’t have the amount of each vitamin I needed from the research I had done so I took all separate vitamins.
3 months prior to trying I took:

•2000IU vitamin D-3 - vitamin D deficiency is linked to fertility issues.
•600mg CoQ10 Ubiquinol - this can increase the quality of your eggs, as I’m older this was important as egg quality decreases with age.
•Super B Complex - this has 400µg of folic acid (B9) & 900µg vitamin B12 for fertility & embryo development. It also has B6 to increase the luteal phase.
•1000mg vitamin C - I took this along side the B6 to lengthen my luteal phase which started out as 10 days & increased to 13 days.
•2000mg Omega 3 Fish oil - linked to higher fertility rates
•3000mg Red Macca - to balance out hormones.

OPK testing
I started tracking my cycle 3 months before off we started trying. I used Wondfo, Ovaview & easy@home strips along side the Clear Blue Digital Advanced (to show 4 fertile days). CB digitals are expensive but after 2 months of tracking I knew I ovulated around CD17 so I would only start using the CB digitals from CD13…so a pack of 20 tests basically lasted me for 4 months! I found them & the E@H strips very reliable. The Wondfo were ok but weren’t as reliable as the E@H & the Ovaview strips did not work for me at all…maybe a faulty batch?! Also if anyone is wondering…after I got my BFP I did an OPK strip test & it came up as a blazing positive so for me, the ovulation strip picked up the pregnancy.

DTD
I was loosely following the “Sperm meets Egg Plan”. I got my peak on CD16 so likely ovulated on CD17. We DTD in the evening on CD12, CD15, CD16 & CD17 & in the morning on CD18.

@4LeafCloverBaby I can't tell you how helpful this has all been. Thank you! I've just bought all of this and I'm feeling determined now. Very grateful.

Thank you to everyone else who also responded. It's kept me going today, which has been very tough after our recent loss. X

@shohopeful you’re so welcome. Wishing you all the luck 🤞🏼🍀 x

Welshcake15 · 29/01/2024 19:05

I've started taking agnus castus for late ovulation and a late ovulation and short luteal phase.

shohopeful · 29/01/2024 19:12

@Welshcake15 I've just ordered some too! Do you find it works? How do you take it? (I read you take it up til ovulation but not after on here but not sure if that's how everyone is doing it) xx

newusern99 · 29/01/2024 20:44

Just to say I also started taking b vitamins and 50-100mg vitamin b6. I now realise that I am suffering from low blood volume caused by b6 toxicity/sfnp with dizziness and brain fog so be careful!

I had the Vogel tincture. I take 20 drops twice a day up until ovulation in strong squash (it tastes vile!)

I also take Wild Nutrition Fertility supplement, co-q10, and Wild Nutrition Pure Strength Omega 3.

MrBigsCat · 30/01/2024 07:28

Vitamin b6 lengthened my luteal phase and I caught the next cycle. I had an 8/9 day luteal phase while ttc dd2

shohopeful · 30/01/2024 07:40

@MrBigsCat that's amazing news! Do you remember how long it took to lengthen? The B vitamins I've ordered has b6 in it (9mg)

Mine took 2 months x

MrBigsCat · 30/01/2024 22:39

About the same- 2 cycles, started taking it and by the next cycle it caught

shohopeful · 31/01/2024 07:04

@MrBigsCat thank you for sharing. Do you know how many mg of B6 you were taking? Desperately trying to get all this right xx

MrBigsCat · 31/01/2024 07:11

I think it was between 60 and 100mg that helped stretch my luteal phase, right now I’m on 100mg and ttc number 4, I’m later 30s though so I know it may take some more time.

saturnspinkhoop · 31/01/2024 07:11

My luteal phase was 6-8 days. I had acupuncture to help with it. I conceived after about 2/3 weekly sessions. May well have been a coincidence- I suppose it’s impossible to tell. I conceived my second child without acupuncture.

Good luck. 😊
