Positive test before period

Hi all, I have got multiple positive tests 6 days before my period. Has this happened to anyone else and everything has been fine? I’m so anxious that my period will still come, even though i’ve had quite a few pregnancy tests.

I only tested positive the day my period was due, so can't comment on that, but seems others here do often get positive quite a few days before. I mean, if your period comes, it will come and there's nothing you can do.

Well i’m a midwife so i just wanted to see if this was common as im surrounded by pregnant women so don’t want to be getting my hopes up (which i am) for my period to come

@user2372 not too sure what your question is really? If you have had positive pregnancy tests then you are pregnant…there is always a chance of miscarriage if that’s what you mean? Congratulations 😊

BuffaloCauliflower · 25/01/2024 15:02

I tested positive long before my period with all 3 of my pregnancies. One resulted in an early miscarriage (5 weeks) the others in my children. If you’ve tested positive you’re pregnant, before or after period was due doesn’t make any difference to the outcome but hopefully everything will be well.

I tested positive at 9dpo and am currently 21 week's pregnant. Congratulations 🎊

Just tested postive myself, 6 days before I'm due. Shocked it was that clear that early but a positive is a positive

user2372 · 25/01/2024 15:59

Thank you all. I think because i’ve had a miscarriage before i’m just nervous and was super shocked I was getting positives so early. Your reassurance means a lot though, thank you all.

@user2372 congratulations! I believe you can test positive from 7dpo so before a period, I think they just say wait until your period is due incase you get a false negative. Did you test early due to having pregnancy symptoms?

Foxtrotbeta · 25/01/2024 19:51

I was thinking about this with the pregnancy tests that advertise they can be used 5 days before your period. But the number of days before a period is completely dependent on the usual length of your luteal phase. I have a short luteal phase so 6 days before my period is due would only be 6DPO, very unlikely to get a positive result. But for women with a longer luteal phase 6 days before their period might be 10DPO, much more chance of a positive.

Update, i’ve just had a negative test tonight? Can someone reassure me please, is this maybe becuase it was at night?

@user2372 wait until the morning again and go get some sleep 😴 when is your period actually due? Hopefully it won't arrive for you and you get another positive tomorrow!

pinksheetss · 25/01/2024 23:08

Depends on the test you are using
Lots will pick up a positive earlier and some won't be as sensitive and need a later one

I'd have thought being a midwife you'd know more of this though but maybe it's different when you are in the situation yourself

It might be good to look at it like it's a patient asking you questions and how you would respond to them

user2372 · 25/01/2024 23:10

To be honest, we don’t care for women till 8 weeks for their booking appt and then any care really is gynae until 16 weeks. So i think im asking because i want to know other people’s advice, don’t want to not ask just because im a midwife?

@user2372 I would do another test today to see. Are you using tests from different brands?
I don’t want to worry you but to share my experience last month I tested positive for 2 days and tested again 2 days later which was negative. AF arrived a few days later. I would test again today or tomorrow just to be sure. Fingers crossed for you!
