Help - semen test results

Hi, I was diagnosed with PCOS in May 2023. My partner and I have been TTC for a year now and no luck. I’ve been taking Metformin since May and have been taking Myo inositol for a few months too.

My doctor is referring us to a fertility specialist, but said my husband needed to have a semen analysis done beforehand. He had his appointment about 2 weeks ago and the doctor got in touch with him to say that she was referring us to the specialist, but that he needed to make an appointment to see the doctor as it “would be good to discuss the results”.

He can’t get an appointment until 5 Feb and it’s maddening not to know if everything is ok or if there’s something wrong! Is it standard practice to discuss the results in person even if everything is fine? Has anyone else had the same thing? What was the outcome?
thanks in advance for your help!

There's probably something to discuss if he's inviting you in for an appointment.

This could be a number of reasons, perhaps an issue has been identified. Perhaps he also wants to talk you through potential solutions. It's also possible that things are relatively fine.

Regardless, no one can accurately speculate. Frustratingly, only the doctor can provide clarity.

With my DH he got a call from the GP to say they had received his results and all was ok.

Very similar story to you. I was also diagnosed with PCOS (in March 2022), and then they checked my husbands sperm, where it transpired he had poor motility.

I was put on metformin, and my husband started taking selenium and vitamin C and zinc. We were referred for
IVF and due to start in September 2022, when I found out that I was pregnant.

fingers crossed for you. Hope everything works out.

My husband got the all clear phone call from his GP after he did his test. Sounds like whatever they need to discuss with you is something that have detected, but because you have a specialist referral it's something they have a plan in place for. Try not to get too worried until you have to be.

Thanks for your responses so far. I’m wondering whether everything is ok because initially my husband had a phone call from the doctor, but he missed the call as he was in work. Then he had a text to say make an appointment to discuss the results… hmm I guess we’ll find out.
