Ovulation after miscarriage

Hi all,

I was around 8 weeks pregnant on 31st December when I began bleeding heavily, and on 3rd January I passed tissue (which I am assuming is the date of my actual miscarriage). Husband and I are keen to try again soon and just wondered if anyone has any advice/success stories/going through the same thing? I was previously tracking my cycles but my LH are still sky high (assuming that is HCG related) so not sure I'll able to use them this time. Thank you Smile

Sorry for your loss dear. What's your CM like close to ovulation? Some women swear by this. Dtd it every other day from the day you start getting EWCM could be a shout.

Sending you baby dust!

scrunchmum · 11/01/2024 19:06

I had a pregnancy loss only around 5 weeks however. If you use the MC date as CD1 I ovulated around one week later than I would expect usually (so around 3 weeks after MC) and I got pregnant again - successfully - that cycle.
Only problem was that my dates were off until my 12 week scan as LMP was used as CD1 but a week off normal.

scrunchmum · 11/01/2024 19:15

Also really sorry for your loss, sorry I should have said that before!

I did track my ovulation using easy at home, as we wanted to start trying again quickly. I got a negative pregnancy test within about 3 days however so obviously levels were low enough for that. But obviously being only 5 weeks rather than 8 may make a difference.

moosey89 · 11/01/2024 19:25

Sorry for your loss. Have you had a negative pregnancy test since your loss? If that is negative your HCG is back to zero so won't be impacting your LH.

shohopeful · 11/01/2024 20:32

@JS5 thank you for replying. I do get EWCM at the time, but the time I fell pregnant I didn't ovulate til day 20 so feels like an eternity to wait! But will keep an eye out and hope something sticks. Thank you!

@scrunchmum congratulations on being successful so quickly. I'm hoping that will happen for us. I think I'll probably be the same - ovulating a little later. I can't bring myself to pregnancy test just now because I know it'll probably still say positive and I am worried I will find that hard. LH is getting lighter so that's a win!

@moosey89 I haven't had a neg test yet (not testing for HCG) so just keeping an eye out for EWCM. I will maybe test in another week or so. I usually get sore boobs when I'm ovulating so wondering if that will be the same this cycle or if it'll feel different because of the MC

@shohopeful you should make sure you have a negative pregnancy test before TTC again otherwise you won't know if a future test is leftover from the miscarriage or a new pregnancy. You won't ovulate until you don't have HCG left in your system x

shohopeful · 11/01/2024 21:01

@moosey89 it's just a bit of a minefield just now, but I know I'll need to do some testing at some point. My friend had a MC and was testing positive until her AF which makes me think you can ovulate with it still in your system? I see why some people wait til a period before they TTC again but I'd really just like to try as much as I can at this point. Thanks for replying! Flowers

@shohopeful yeah I wanted to try again as soon as possible so I understand. I didn't actually ovulate before af came after my most recent loss in July (technically this af was not a "period" as you have to ovulate to have a period, so just a "bleed" - our bodies are so complicated!!). X

vixencomet · 12/01/2024 06:16

I'm so sorry for your loss. This happened to me and I was 9 weeks pregnant when I started to bleed. I went to hospital to get checked and there's nothing they could do so was sent home to let it run its course. This was in a January. I didn't track my ovulation after as I was too grief stricken and in shock. Me and my husband just tried to relax and support each other. I was pregnant again by April that year and must have conceived in March and gave birth in November. She's now 7 year old. I've heard plenty of stories similar to this so I'm hoping this will send you positive thoughts and baby dust. Best of luck.

shohopeful · 12/01/2024 09:22

@vixencomet thank you so much for sharing this. It's so helpful to know it is possible to fall again soon and is keeping me going at the moment. Star

I had MMC late last year too, had the surgical removal on 4th Dec (I was 8 weeks pregnant).

My LH was sky high after the miscarriage until about 16 days after, and then I had a couple days of it being base line before it peaked and I got the usual CM. So I ovulated about 20 days after miscarrying and had first period 2 weeks after that (was gutted as we did TTC that cycle).

I still had the very very very faintest line on a HCG test when I ovulated. But the next day it was gone.

shohopeful · 12/01/2024 22:09

@AnnieStar12 thank you for sharing! Sending you all the baby dust for a rainbow baby soon. Please keep me posted. The two week wait is not something I am looking forward to coming back! What app do you use to track? I used to use natural cycles but I've found Pre Mom to be much better (I like the graph of temp and LH together. Love a bit of data!!) xx

Hi everyone. In case anyone (like me) is scouring the internet trying to find other peoples' experiences I got my positive LH test this morning. I also got a negative pregnancy test too (I haven't tested every day, but it was still a faint positive around 3 days ago). If we are counting from the first day I started bleeding I'm on cycle day 21, or if it's the day I passed the tissue and had the actual miscarriage it's day 18. I did pass everything naturally - started bleeding 31st December (great timing!!!) until 7th January, and I was around 8 weeks pregnant. Will post again if/when we get our BFP - hopefully not waiting too many cycles!

@shohopeful how are you getting on? I had surgical management last week after a missed miscarriage which I discovered at 12 week scan, baby was only measuring 8 weeks with no hb. I was obviously devastated but since having the surgery and 9 days on I'm feeling more positive. I want to try for another asap so I'm just wondering how you're getting on. I took a pregnancy test and still positive (not sure why I thought it would be negative so early). I don't want to miss ovulation though!

shohopeful · 17/02/2024 15:01

@jellyfish2 aw I am so sorry. That is so awful. I am currently one DPO after getting my period on 28th Jan. I was also testing negative for ages. But I also just kept an eye on my LH levels. Are you doing that? I use the PreMom app which is really useful. Your LH will still look like it's sky high but it will drop and then likely rise again quite quickly when you ovulate. To give you an idea of this mine got down to low levels by day 16 and got my peak day 18. I was so desperate to get pregnant that cycle I was a mess in the TWW and very stressed and worried/trying to avoid the trauma of a period. However it came and I am feeling more positive. I've started seed cycling for help with hormones as well as taking lots of vitamin C and D. It's such a tough time and I really feel for you. One day at a time, it will get better and your rainbow baby will come

shohopeful · 17/02/2024 15:01

@jellyfish2 sorry testing positive for ages

OP posts:
jellyfish2 · 17/02/2024 15:08

I haven't started testing LH yet, I thought I'd wait for 2 weeks as unlikely before then do you think?? What's seed cycling? I used premom when I got pregnant and it happened in the first cycle! Hopefully it'll be quick again but I don't know how my body will be now after the MC. How was your first period? I really hope you get your positive this cycle. The tww is torture isn't it.

shohopeful · 17/02/2024 15:47

@jellyfish2 id just wait to LH test when you feel ready. It's going to say positive because of the HGC in your system just now so probably better to wait to see it come down, that way when it is at its peak you'll know it's not a false positive. PreMom is great! Seed cycling is the first part of the month eating pumpkin seeds and flaxseed and the second half sesame and sunflower. It's supposed to help with our hormones. I just put them on my porridge. No idea if it'll work but willing to give anything a bash at this point. My period was just like a regular period, hopefully yours will be the same (although it would be best if it just didn't come!!)

@shohopeful aw I'm so happy to see this!! Huge congratulations! Wishing you all the luck for this pregnancy 🩷

Troptolate · 25/03/2024 21:38

Hi @shohopeful a big congratulations to you and hope everything is going well.
I’m currently waiting to ovulate after having a miscarriage which started on 5th March (3 weeks ago) and bleeding lasted for around 7 days.
Seeing stories of BFPs following miscarriage is very reassuring and hope I can be one of the lucky(!) ones too.

shohopeful · 25/03/2024 21:47

@Troptolate I'm so sorry you're having to go through this. I know so many women who fell pregnant straight away or within the first three cycles so I've everything crossed for you. Make sure you're still taking your vitamin d and folic acid because that'll help. I'm now 7+3 and I never thought I'd be here so I have every faith it'll happen for you too xxx

I wanted to hop on for advice! I had a miscarriage at 5.5 weeks but HCG was already extremely low.

  • Tues 2 April- went to A&E due to severe cramps and some bleeding. Levels were 132
  • Thurs 4 April- levels dropped to 50
  • Presumed it was over
  • Thursday 11th and Friday 12th I had what felt like exactly a period, much much heavier bleeding than the week before. Soo much tissue/ clotting wow. My boobs were sore, I felt bloated and had period pains. Saw a dr and he confirmed everything had passed and my level was 1.

My question is- would I count CD1 as the Tues 2 April or the day of the heaviest bleeding? Still waiting for ovulation. My OPKS seem to get closer but never reach a peak since 10 April!

Any ideas why I felt soooo hormonal and bled so much more after my hcg levels hit 0?!

Thanks so much xxx

Sorry to hear of your mc. I would probably count the heaviest bleeding day as CD1as that's also when it was also confirmed your HCG was just 1 (but I'm no expert). After my MC it took over 5 weeks for me to ovulate so you may find you'll be waiting a while longer for your body to get back to normal unfortunately.
