TWW - how soon do you test?

I'm currently in my TWW trying to conceive baby number 2 after a miscarriage. I'm 10po and got a bfn this morning. Has anyone had the same at this stage, when would you expect to see positive result on early test strips?

I have one 3 year old little girl and tested positive with her at 8dpo. But had two MC in 2023. First one I was 11dpo when I tested positive, and 12dpo for the second. So you’re definitely not out yet, even if you’re tested early before, it really is different for each pregnancy. I should add that I always use the internet cheap test strips and always got my early positives on those, then I’d confirm a few days later with a “proper” brand test! 😂 Fingers crossed for you!

@Shmoo2612 thanks so much for your reply! It's always good to hear other people's experiences. Will try and keep positive 🤞🏻

My first pregnancy I tested positive at 9dpo, this time I wasn't positive until 14dpo and I'm 13 weeks now, everything seems totally fine. I obviously freaked about not getting dark tests until 21dpo rather than 16dpo last time but there was nothing to worry about. So definitely not out until AF arrives!

I would say don't test until 12dpo if you can help it, I only tested at 9dpo because 12dpo that cycle landed on what should have been my 12 week scan from a miscarriage so I wanted to get the disappointment out the way early (but ended up being positive!).

There are charts online that show the percentage of false negative tests at each dpo and before 12dpo it's quite high if I remember rightly

Shmoo2612 · 07/01/2024 14:27

We are, currently 6dpo, here we go again! Have already said though if we conceive again and worst case scenario happens again we’ll be stopping, I can’t put myself through all the tests etc, I will just find a way to be happy with our little family of 3! But fingers crossed if it happens again, things will be ok this time 🤞

@Ash4317 Hey Op 👋🏼 I thought I was out last month as was testing with the sensitive FRER's from 8 dpo - 11 dpo and all were negative! Thought I must have been out... then for some reason had the urge to test 12 dpo with a cheapy and got a vvfl ✨ was very shocked as my last 2 pregnancy's I was getting faint lines by 9 dpo, so it does happen 🙏🏼 Sending lots of baby dust 🥰

This was my vvfl at 12 dpo (I'm currently 4 weeks 4 days with our rainbow 🌈)

@justanotherlaura congratulations on your pregnancy ☺️ super exciting! 💖 Did you have any symptoms when you first tested positive? My little boy is 6 so I can't remember when I tested positive before and I don't remember having early symptoms either, it happened in the first cycle so really quick. We are on our 3 month this time round, although I'm a bit older now (33).

@Shmoo2612 I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you! It's so hard after a loss hopefully it will happen for you again soon and all will be good 🤞🏻✨.

@SunshineAndRainbows6 this is lovely to read. Congratulations! ❤️ I won't lose hope yet although I do have some mild cramping. Did you have any symptoms when you tested positive?

@Ash4317 Thank you 🙏🏼 Yes your deffo not out yet, I think the only noticeable thing to me was the cramps/backache but I get both before I'm due on anyway! We had a MMC in October and had to have surgical management, so I have been trying not to symptom spot too much otherwise I would drive myself crazy... to be honest I think I did that with the testing anyway haha!

Keeping everything crossed 🤞🏻 for you ✨

Personally, I have just had a chemical pregnancy (early miscarriage)... had I not realised I was pregnant, I would have assumed I was just having a period. Instead my husband and I had to go through the delight and celebrations of being pregnant for 3 days and then the heartbreak of losing it all. Next time, I won't be testing until my period is late. Just my experience and reaction, but something to consider.

Ash4317 · 07/01/2024 18:12

@Mmmmpavlova this is exactly what happened to me in my last cycle just before Christmas so I should no better not to test but can't help it! 😔 Sorry to hear you went through the same thing it's awful having positive tests for it to last only a few days.

I'd love to join the tww with you if that's okay! I'm sorry to hear about your stories it must be truly heartbreaking
I am currently 5dpo I think with really bad cramps and feel like I'm constipated but I'm not

Brookes19 · 08/01/2024 17:25

I got a faint (but noticeable) line at 12 DPO this pregnanacy. I think it was similar with my previous two. I try to wait until 4/5 days before AF is due to avoid disappointment, but its easier said then done

Ash4317 · 09/01/2024 21:19

@Lizzie1302 of course! Hopefully you'll be lucky this cycle. How long have you been ttc?

@Brookes19 congrats on your pregnancy! I think I'm out this month 😔 on to the next!
