TTC at 40

Happy New Year! Hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Year.
Would be great to hear from anyone else who is TTC at 40 (I'll be 41 in the summer). This will be baby no2; we had a bit of rocky time getting pregnant with our first squish; I had a miscarriage and then a chemical.
We are both pretty fit; and making a conscious effort to loose any unwanted pounds to make sure we are in the best possible shape to try again. In terms of vitamins, we both used the female/male pregnecare supplements last time and had no issues with them; due to my age (and husbands; he's 42) would anyone recommend the more pricy ones (proceive is one that keeps cropping up). Thanks in advance; and good luck to anyone TTC, it can be so draining so I'm sending you love.

Hello!

I'm turning 43 in March, and just taken the plunge to try for DC3.

DD was conceived when I was 38, and born when I was 39.

DS conceived and born when I was 41. He's about to turn 1.

Both c-sections, and I will most probably have another if we're lucky enough to conceive again.

Feels a bit mad to be trying again, when we have a lovely balanced little family. But the heart (ovaries...) wants what it wants.

PurpleChrayne · 03/01/2024 11:03

As for the vitamins, DH doesn't take any special ones. Just a regular multivitamin. I am still on my postpartum breastfeeding ones.

Newmumwales · 03/01/2024 18:08

@CFE1 Im also 40 and started trying for baby number 2. We only DTD once this cycle and I’m all over the place with when I ovulate. Feeling really emotional tonight and struggling. We’ve got a DD who’s 5 and had her when I was 34. My partner is also 40. He is very healthy and I just take normal bit and with folic acid and vitamin c but if I remember right pregnancy vitamins made me feel sicky.

@PurpleChrayne i really admire you and makes me have hope that you’ve had all your DC later. I’m onto trying for number 2 but would love the courage for another then straight away lol

ladybranstonpickle · 05/01/2024 09:03

@PurpleChrayne I am also 43 (November birthday) and trying for my second baby. I have a 4 year old daughter, born the month after I turned 39.

I had a mmc at 10 weeks in July, and not a snif of a positive test yet. Hoping 2024 is our year!

I'm taking CoQ10, Folate, Vitamin D and Pregnacare vitamins.

Gingerblueeyes · 05/01/2024 11:24

Morning all!
I'm 41 (October baby!) and it took me a very long time to find the love of my life, but finally have! This is TTC for #1! Never had a pregnancy scare, pee'd on a few sticks but never been truly worried it'll be positive!

Worried now I've missed the boat now it feels likes my ducks are in a row! 2 apps have me in my fertility window at the moment, other saying ovulation is tomorrow! Looks like a weekend of DTD for me and then the TWW begins! 😑🙄

praying4babba · 05/01/2024 20:23

44 year old trying for baby number 2 . Failed round of IVF with only one pgta tested embryo, adeno fixed by 10 weeks of medical
menopause , five fibroids removed and we still
going 😅💓 baby dust to all of us ! Cd3 tomorrow !!

Cam007 · 05/01/2024 20:52

Hi I’m 41 and been trying for approximately 6 months to conceive for the first time. I'm taking CoQ10, Folate, Vitamin D and Pregnacare vitamins, last month I also started dhea. I’m currently dpo 12 and have got a faint positive but hoping it will stick as I had a chemical last August. I have some mild cramping and no other symptoms. Wish me luck!

praying4babba · 06/01/2024 08:11

@Cam007 oooo I am very excited for you!! I have DHEA but was nervous to start it as i read it makes your hair fall out and after my IVF drugs my h air was coming out in chunks .... Maybe i should just take the plunge!! I am holding everything for you !!! x

praying4babba · 06/01/2024 08:11

I was reading about Impryl? Has anyone heard of it?

Wictc · 06/01/2024 08:17

Hi! I’m soon to be 42, had our first child at 39 after many miscarriages. Had an ectopic early 2022 and have been trying for a second for a year now. Not a sniff of a line! I have put on weight so trying to shift that. Sperm count is fine and my egg count is average for my age. I don’t think IVF would be worth it for us.

Cam007 · 06/01/2024 08:24

@praying4babba thank you! I had some blood tests done via hertility and my DHEA levels were on the lower side of normal so decided to supplement. I haven’t noticed any issues with hair loss.

praying4babba · 06/01/2024 10:53

Ah I didn’t we could get blood tests for dhea. Let me
ask my doc for that . Do they just test dhea itself ? Thank you

Cam007 · 06/01/2024 10:57

@praying4babba I paid for a fertility check with a company called Hertility. Do check them out. I found the results helpful.

JJ06 · 10/01/2024 23:20

Hello

I’m 41.. i suffered a missed miscarriage 3 days ago went for a reassurance scan I was 8 weeks 5days but baby only measured 5 weeks 6 days with no heartbeat 😭 had no issues getting pregnant stopped taking contraception pill beginning of October Af arrived then had a BFP 3 weeks later… myself and OH are devastated but are desperate to try again ASAP due to my age time is running out I have a 15 yr old DD from a previous relationship which was a lovely pregnancy with no issues can’t wait to start tracking my ovulation once bleeding has stopped EPAU mentioned they could offer me help with medication if we decided we want to try again.

Downtherabbithole83 · 11/01/2024 09:03

Hi all!

I’m 40 (41 in a few months…) and ttc number 3 - though it’s my first with my current partner (he also has a child with his ex). We are both fit and active with no health issues.

We conceived in summer 2022 (after trying for about 5 months) but issues were found at our 12 week scan so we had to tfmr.

Assumed we’d just be able to conceive easily again but here we are 14 months later with only 3 early losses to show for our efforts. Haven’t made it past about 6 weeks… people seem to be assuming it’s probably just that the egg quality isn’t great now (especially after the chromosomal issues found in my last pregnancy).

Currently 7dpo and feeling a bit fed up with the whole process! Nice to find a group of ladies at a similar time in life!!! I certainly don’t ‘feel’ old 😂

Gingerblueeyes · 11/01/2024 10:00

@JJ06 So sorry for your loss, I hope you get a sticky BFP soon!

I'm about 6dpo today and I had a bit of brown when I wiped last night, I never spot between periods and I'm like clock work! Trying not to over think it but I've also felt massively bloated and uncomfortable for the last days which is very unusual for me.

How's everyone else getting on? x

CFE1 · 11/01/2024 10:08

Hi everyone! So sorry it has taken me so long to get back in touch; the post Christmas return to work has made me even more disorganised than usual! Thank you to everyone who has replied/messaged, it has really helped me and made me feel less alone; and I will be better at keeping in touch on the thread and checking in with everyone.
The TTC journey is such a rollercoaster isn't it; and I know for me I feel like my 'clock' is ticking VERY loudly at the minute because of my age, which isn't helping!
I'm so sorry to read those who have had losses; I hope you are doing as ok as possible and taking time to look after yourself; please reach out if you want to talk, I found that was a big help when I went through my miscarriage ❤

Quick update on supplements; I've taken the plunge and ordered the Proceive Max (mainly because I found a 20% discount code!) They will arrive at the weekend, and I'll let you know what I think!

Take care everyone; speak soon xxx

Hey everyone , I’ve just turned 43 2 days ago 😬had a mmc in August and a chemical on Monday. We did Smep last month which I think must’ve worked. Can’t believe I’m 43 and trying for baby no.2 I don’t feel my age at all. Not sure whether to continue or not it’s starting to consume my life and then disappointment when I do get pregnant. Although I read there is only a 5% chance of pregnancy at my age so being fertile I guess is half the battle. What’s everyone’s thoughts on egg quality, is there any decent eggs left ? I do exercise and look after myself but unfortunately during Covid I spent a lot of time drinking wine and I have had my fair share over the years so not sure if that’s depleted the quality of the eggs. Lovely to find a group who can offer their thoughts xxx

praying4babba · 18/01/2024 08:01

@Hollycharlie Hi there ! I am sorry about your losses x I am 44 and we have been trying since 42 years old, however last year was spent doing ivf then surgery to remove five large fibroids and then I had to do down regulation for 10/12 weeks . Our transfer of our only pgta embryo did not stick. We are on round three of medicated IUI as i am still not out of menopause and I wont lie I am exhausted and feeling very fed up. I have to take estrogen and progesterone and gosh I miss who i was before this journey. I believe there are good eggs it is just a waiting game.

Gracie1825 · 27/01/2024 22:05

Hey everyone
I had a MMC in December
Just tuned 42 and am obsessed with getting pregnant again and hopefully it working out this time, glad to be not alone as my age is freaking me out

Rosyposy26 · 03/02/2024 09:20

Hey all. I’m 43 in March and just suffered a miscarriage after falling a month after coming off the minipill. Pregnancy wasn’t going to plan was supposed to be 8 weeks but 2 weeks ago only measured 5 days. Then only measured 5 +5 10 days later with a slow FH. So wasn’t meant to be. We are going to try again as soon as I can

praying4babba · 04/02/2024 07:17

Hi there !! We are 44 and just five weeks pregnant. Going for another blood test tomorrow to make sure HCG is rising. SO many nerves right here! Nothing like my first 16years ago, positive pregnancy test and had excitement straight away. I feel too nervous to be excited lol

So sorry for your miscarriages @Gracie1825 and @Rosyposy26 . This is a very nerve wracking time for us at this age. I think I will only be able to be excited at 10 weeks after the NIPT test.

JC084 · 04/02/2024 07:50

Hi all, hoping I can join you ladies.
I just turned 40 this week and have had a rough 6 months with 3 losses.
However, we tried again immediately after a loss at 6 weeks at the start of Jan, and had a BFP a couple of days ago (best birthday present!!)
Very nervous for obvious reasons but trying to keep positive

Hollycharlie · 04/02/2024 10:30

Hi ladies, fab news about the bfp’s sorry to hear of the losses. I lost at 11 weeks in August aged 42 been trying since. Nearly made it start of Jan but turned into a chemical on my 43 rd birthday 🤯it’s ok tho was expected. Now on 2ww after doing the deed about 8 times over 5 days 🙈🙈so we shall see. I absolutely don’t feel pregnant at 9 dpo but with the one I lost it was 6 weeks before I even noticed something wrong. Have a daughter who’s 8. Gave up drinking this month to see if it’ll help. I’ve lost a few pounds if nothing else. Good luck to us all.

Rosyposy26 · 04/02/2024 12:37

Thank you. On the positive side I conceived quicker than I thought but been very hard these last couple of days especially as I’m still suffering with morning sickness.
