Miscarriage advice please

Sadly we experienced our first miscarriage at 5 weeks.
After ttc for a while we was very happy but cautious as they lines were not getting darker. Tested positive 18dpo.

My query is can you experience extreme pain in the lower abdomen and lower back in early miscarriage at 4.5- 5 weeks? I was in excruciating pain on the floor.

My bloods at hospital showed I was no longer pregnant, hcg at 3. The bleeding has continued lighter than a period and the pain has eased within 24 hours.

As its my first loss, just worried the pain could of been something else but the hospital didn't give me too much information.

Sorry for your loss, can only imagine how challenging things are atm.

I've heard variations from notable discomfort to excruciating pain.

The pain lightened up as the bleeding has lightened? Hopefully hospital offered pain medication

I had my cp at week 5 too, I didn't have any pain. Maybe I got lucky? I do generally have lower back pain but I have stage 4 endo 🤷‍♀️.

Sorry about your loss, I know how devastating it is, my 12 weeks scan would have been tomorrow 😢 getting the letter then having to cancel the appointment was heartbreaking.

@Outliers Thank you so much given the time of year as well its not great.

The bleeding was heaviest the first 12-24 hours or so, now its hit and miss, comes then nothing for hours. I'd say the pain was at its worst for first 3 hours then eased but was still painful probably again the first 12-24 hours

Hospital said to take paracetamol or ibruofen

I am so sorry for your loss. I was around 10 weeks when I miscarried and I had bad pain (nothing I couldn't handle though) and lots of 'tissue' coming out with bleeding. The bigger the pain was the bigger the piece coming out soon after was. If your bleeding and pain have reduced then I would think you are over the worse. Keep taking painkillers and perhaps a hot water bottle on your stomach.

@RWSS sorry for your loss too, hope you are okay x

I'm Surprised I had such awful pain at 5 weeks I may ask my gp.

Hope you're okay tomorrow

@Olika Thank you I'm worried I had such bad pain that early really. Think I'll ask my gp but I don't seem to get anywhere. I only had a little bit of tissue, yes the hot water bottle is my new favourite thing.

So sorry for your loss to. Hope you're okay.

I've had my cry today so should be ok tomorrow, gotta go work so that will help.
Doesn't help that my period started today too 😥

@Yorkshire2022 I'm so sorry you went through this, it's really rough.

I've had a chemical and then two losses at 6 weeks and 8 weeks. And I did find the miscarriages extremely painful. More like birth (obviously not as bad! I have a child and birth was definitely worse, but the type of pain was similar) in that there was a few hours of extreme cramping where (I assume) I dilated to pass some sizable chunks of tissue. Then a week or so of bleeding getting progressively lighter. That was true even in my 6 week miscarriage where my HCG levels hadn't been rising and I knew there was nothing viable there.

I also don't want to dismiss the pain. It could have been something like ectopic which can cause pain in early pregnancy. If the pain has passed and most of the bleeding then you may never know, as your body has already expelled the pregnancy. But if you are concerned please do talk to your GP.

Us too, 2 days ago :(

I haven't been in much pain, more like period pain....

Hope you feel better soon ❤

@bubballoo sorry for your loss too.

Thank you for the advise it really helped. The pain has calmed down so I'll monitor for now. Thank you again. I did wonder if it was ectopic or maybe a cyst rupture but I'll never know.
