Why did I have 3 false negatives?

I have a lovely baby who has no health problems, average size etc, he was born at 38+2. When we were ttc for him, I missed my period in April ‘22 and then did 3 early response tests (just because those were the ones I had) every morning for 3 mornings in a row. All of them came up negative, and then on the 4th day AF arrived. Which was disappointing but fine. Then in May I started getting pregnancy symptoms and the next time I test, day before AF was due, I got the BFP. Happy days

When we went for our 12 week scan however, they told us baby was measuring at least 16 weeks. Meaning I must have gotten pregnant in April. We surprised and happy and queried it with 2 separate midwives and the sonographer and everyone just shrugged. Which is absolutely fine but I’m just wondering if anyone on here can shed some light on why we had 3 false negatives given the time frames? I really don’t understand it

We are currently ttc baby 2 and I’d be keen to understand this in case it occurs again! It’s not an issue by any means more just curiousity. Any armchair experts out there?

Anecdotally I had 0 morning sickness so I’m wondering if I just have really low hCG or something?

You likely have low base hcg (can be between 0.1 and 5) and/or implanted late.

There are so many variables, timing of the test, sensitive/ quality of the test, growth of baby etc etc

No one can say for certain
