Confused with DPO dates and testing

Hi everyone!

Hope you are all well!

Basically just looking for some help from someone who knows what they're doing when it comes to testing!

I already have a 2 year old dd but she was a wonderful accident so never tracked.

This cycle I have tracked my ovulation dates and my Flo said CD 16 but by my OPK It was CD 17 so ovulation probably CD18.

With the early tests it says 6 days before missed period (I know I should wait but it's so hard) so I did that today and was negative on clear blue. However as I ovulated later would it make a difference as I'd only technically be 7-8 DPO?

Am I still in with a chance or should I be thinking I'm out this cycle?

Thankyou so much

Best time to test will always be day or after your period is due.

At a stretch two days before. IMO anything before is uncertain (due to CPs).

I totally agree I just wanted to know if having a later ovulation date means you are less likely to get a positive on a pregnancy test that's for 6 days before missed period?

Thankyou x

@earlytwentiesmama I think it's more about when implantation happens that dictates whether it shows early on early tests. In my experience the earliest I've ever got a BFP is 11DPO, 2 days before AF due, and it was so faint. This cycle I'm 11DPO today and no BFP yet, will see what tomorrow brings if anything. I don't think you can call yourself "out" yet at all, still plenty of time for a positive and I have fingers crossed for you! X

6 days early is actually meant to be 8/9 dpo cos not everyone ovulates on the same day. But obv the earlier you test the more likely you are to have an error of get your hopes up over a pregnancy thats a chemical

Yup, I think 6 days early is based upon a standard 14 day Luteal Phase. Mine tends to be 12 days, so obviously testing on 6dpo would be a complete waste. I got my BFP last time with a FRER on 10dpo.

Oh I see, in theory yes that's possible. As with these OPKs we're going off estimations - so as you can't know definitively it makes the accuracy on pregnancy tests in advance of your period.

I think, if I recall correctly, early detection tests are only like 60% accurate 6 days before your period (don't quote) - but I'm sure it's low compared to 99% when period is late

Hi everyone,

Just an update.

Put it to the back of my mind over the weekend and tested on what I think would be 11dpo and got my BFP after a stark negative on Friday!

Thankyou for your help :)
