I'm pregnant and went for an early scan yesterday expecting to be around 8-7 weeks. The scan showed I was measuring 5w5d and there was an intermittent heartbeat, which they said could be normal for that gestation but they'd like to see me next week to check again.

At this point, I'm expecting a bad outcome as I'm pretty sure, based on my dates, that I can't be that early. But I'd only had one period since I had my son (breastfeeding) so I don't know my cycle length or ovulation. LMP was 22nd Sept. (Prior to my son I always had a longer cycle)

The latest we had sex was on 11th Oct (and not again until after pos pregnancy test.
Positive pregnancy test on 30th Oct dated me at 2-3 weeks.

Like I said I'm expecting a bad outcome given the details but is there a chance from that I've done my maths wrong? Even accounting for 5 days for the sperm, late ovulation/implantation, and ultrasound variance, I feel like the possible 3-week gap is too wide for there to be hopeful news. Especially given the intermittent heartbeat. Any thoughts/advice?

Hi ReallyHan, there is always hope but I do honestly think you are right to prepare yourself as much as one can for what might be bad news. The most worrying thing, dates aside, is the intermittent heartbeat. I really hope that it does work out well for you but be prepared and if it is good news, so much the better xx

@ReallyHan hold in there op. When I found out I was pregnant I thought i was further along then i thought. I actually thought I was 8 weeks but on early scan showed I was only 6+5. I'm now 37+1.
So stay positive hun x
