Conceiving after depo injection

Hi all,

Just after some of your stories about conceiving after depo injection!

A bit of backstory, in August 2019 I stopped getting the depo injection, after 4 months my period arrived with a vengeance on Boxing Day 2019 and came and went every week or so, the longest lasting 11 days with unbearable pain. Following this I went on the regividon pill, I then fell pregnant October 2020 which sadly ended in a chemical pregnancy. Fast forward to January 2021 I found out I was pregnant with my now 2 year old little boy! My partner and I have decided that in the next year or 2 (whenever it happens if we are lucky enough) we would love to have baby number 2! Now after my son was born I went straight back onto the depo when he was 3 weeks old as my periods were horrendous and I didn’t want another one just yet and I knew it worked for me. As we want to have baby number 2 fairly soon I decided to not get my depo that was due 11/10/2023 however instead of my period taking months to return, after 3 weeks it was (and still is) back!

So my question is, how long did it take for your period to come back after the depo after giving birth and how soon after that did you become pregnant? 😊

Another thing to mention is that the depo stopped all bleeding for me both times I was on it

I was told to go on depo after my LO was born and came off last August and have been ttc since :( period came back in February

Got taken off depo (worries about bone density apparently) in July 2010.
My surprise dd born June 2011
Went back on depo afterwards as I'd conceived on the mini pill (when taking it correctly). I only had one period between coming off depo and conceiving as it had stopped my periods.

Gosh you sound just like me, both times I fell pregnant I was on Rigevidon and was taking it correctly also! I’ve got a doctors appointment next week to discuss alternative pills as we’re not ready to actively try just yet but if it happens it happens!

Had my last depo in December, decided not to have another one in March. Periods came back last week. Bled for 4 days which seemed like a normal period, stopped for 2 days then bled again for one more day. I'm hoping this is a sign my body is getting back to normal! Good luck with conceiving!

Hi lovely - when you went on the pill again after your periods were super painful did you find it evened out your periods / ovulation?

my backstory:

last injection: October 2022
ran out : December 2022
period returned: January 2024 for 4 days then I had spotting 2 days later
nothing in February
period again for 4 days the first week of march
then on the 18th of March I got another period which lasted until June 15th (I’ve been given iron tablets etc now due to the amount of blood I’ve been loosing as it’s every single day!)
then a week after the 15th of June it came back and I’m currently on week 3 of a period again.

im in the wait list to see a gynaecologist which won’t be until November this year (was referred December 2023 as they thought I may have PCOS but that’s now been ruled out) and my doctor has said that my only option is to go on the pill but even she said it defeats the purpose of trying for a baby and she doesn’t know if going on the pill will sort my period out then when I come off it it may just start again like it has been!
