How long did it take to conceive your second baby?

Hi all, we have a 3.5 month old baby which we are extremely grateful for. Our journey to having him took longer than we expected (took us 2 years to conceive). I’m 36 and we want a second baby so feel like I will probably start trying sooner rather than later. Had a c section so need some recovery time first 😅 Curious to know how long did it take you to have your second? I’m hoping second fine round it might be quicker but I know how random ttc is!

2nd baby took us around 4 years to conceive. Started trying age 24 and gave birth shortly before my 30th birthday.

It felt like a miracle to finally have DC2 as we had tried for so long and suffered a loss while ttc. Dh and I decided that if we wanted another DC, we would have to come to terms with another large age gap and another long ttc journey.

3rd baby was a surprise conceived while I was still breastfeeding Dc2, and periods hadn't yet returned.

First one three months.
Second one first time.

mondaytosunday · 07/11/2023 18:06

Both took about four months. 20 months between them and had sections with both. I was over 40.

mumonthehill · 07/11/2023 18:09

First at 25, 2 months of trying. Second at 32 nearly 7 years of trying. No idea why.

ELJ1502 · 07/11/2023 18:14

1st a few months and she is now nearly 4. Currently in cycle 14 of trying for number 2.

mrsed1987 · 07/11/2023 18:17

First baby took about 3 months (30 years old)
Second (5 years later at age 35) 5 months

A year for baby one - had just started fertility investigations

Baby 2 was a happy surprise when DC1 was 1yo and my cycles had only just returned! We weren’t trying but assumed it was going to be an issue…

As PP says I think my body just clicked at what it was meant to do when DTD 😂

Hope that gives you hope - good luck!

Both first month trying, early 30s for both.

@Starry4321 a GP will not really be able to tell you much. I've seen a top doctor and physio in London and was told to heal fully, it takes 2 years. They advised waiting until baby is 10 months minimum before trying if healing is going well. We also had a long journey to get baby 1 so I was quite keen to get going but I'm still breastfeeding and am taking the advice to wait a little longer!

3 years for child 1 and we're at the 1 year point for the second. 😩

Peachpicklepie · 07/11/2023 20:41

First baby was first month, second pregnancy was first month but miscarried, then third pregnancy (2nd child) was second month

chocomoccalocca · 07/11/2023 20:44

About 6 months though that ended in miscarriage and then conceived the next month. Same with our first through where it also took about 6 months and a miscarriage with conceiving almost straight after.

Beccylou94 · 07/11/2023 20:51

We are over a year into ttc dc#2. Dc#1 took 1 month. So this time around with actually having to try and lh test and bbt is just really depressing

PurpleBugz · 07/11/2023 21:25

I tried for 18 months then life changed so stopped trying. Then had a surprise pregnancy from one time no contraception. And then second is just 13 months younger than first. Went in the coil, got pregnant with third first month off the coil.

I think my body learned how to do it after it managed it the first time

PurpleBugz · 07/11/2023 21:26
  • copper coil.

Avoid all hormonal contraceptives if you plan to get pregnant soonish. It can take months to get out your system

Apossum · 07/11/2023 21:27

Took just under two years to conceive our son, we’re now 18 months into ttc number 2. Yay for us 🤦🏼‍♀️

Whalewatchers · 07/11/2023 21:29

Straight away with both when she was 31 then 35. I must admit I was a little gutted as I was looking forward to lots of sex 😆 ... But obviously very pleased and grateful at the same time

Blessedbethefruitz · 07/11/2023 21:30

5 months both times, wish we hadn't started in the new year both times - birthdays are 7 days apart in January!

Cumbrianlife · 07/11/2023 21:32

First DS a happy accident. It took almost nine years to concieve DS2, which was very difficult. They're now 28 and 19.

SallyWD · 07/11/2023 21:37

Started trying for my second at 37. Think it took about 8 months.

WhatInTheFuckery · 07/11/2023 21:38

DD1 took 13 months, DD2 was unexpected..I was on the pill so no trying

kernowpicklepie · 07/11/2023 21:41

1st one took a year, second one took 1 try and we weren't trying so it was a surprise especially as it led to 2 under 2 🤦🏻‍♀️

@FlyOnTheWall89 thanks that’s helpful. Definitely want to ensure my body is ready to handle it when the time comes. I’m also still breastfeeding with no sign of period yet (nearly 4 months postpartum) so will definitely be waiting a good bit longer!

My friend took 4 years to conceive her first but only a few months to conceive her second. She was in absolute shock when she got pregnant with her youngest! There is no rhyme or reason to it sometimes.

princefamilypaper · 07/11/2023 21:45

First baby- first cycle
Second baby- 3rd cycle with a chemical pregnancy in between
