How long did it take to conceive your second baby?

Hi all, we have a 3.5 month old baby which we are extremely grateful for. Our journey to having him took longer than we expected (took us 2 years to conceive). I’m 36 and we want a second baby so feel like I will probably start trying sooner rather than later. Had a c section so need some recovery time first 😅 Curious to know how long did it take you to have your second? I’m hoping second fine round it might be quicker but I know how random ttc is!

First baby was a happy suprise, 2nd baby took 6 months. Annoyingly it's just completely random if there are no fertility struggles added in the mix.
My friend took a year for baby 1 and then baby 2 was first attempt.
Congratulations on you're little one and good luck for number 2 when you start trying 🍀😊

1st baby a surprise, 2nd baby 6 cycles, next pregnancy was a surprise after sex once with no contraception (tuned out ectopic) and current pregnancy 19 cycles

DappledThings · 06/11/2023 21:23

1st one took 2 years, 2nd one took 2 months.

Tryingtoconceivenumber2 · 06/11/2023 21:25

I was 36 when I conceived my 2nd, took 3 months. Thought also took 3 months to conceive my 1st.

Month 3 must be lucky for us! X

StillWantingADog · 06/11/2023 21:26

We had a similar story to you first time round. Took just under 2 years and eventually conceived with clomid. Long and boring story. I was 35 when I had dc1.

anyway with dc 2 we literally DTD without contraception once. Dc1 was less than a year old. So clearly something had “clicked” in the fertility department. I was shocked at the time, I was ready for another slog to start but not to get pg straightaway! All worked out well.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 06/11/2023 21:27

First took 4 months, second is hard to count, but 2 cycles. Got coil out then 6 weeks later got a needle stick at work, so had to use protection till I was cleared of blood Bourne viruses, and in that time covid jobs were made available, so we waited another month till I had that, then got pregnant right away, I was very lucky!

Outliers · 06/11/2023 21:27

1st conceived at 28 on first try. Just started trying for 2nd now 2 years on at 30.

I also had an emergency c-section, it's been 18 months so assuming I'm fully healed and at relatively low risk of a rupture.

toomanyleggings · 06/11/2023 21:30

First cycle we tried. I was 36

DramaAlpaca · 06/11/2023 21:36

About ten minutes Grin

Seriously though, it was a bit of a surprise as it took a year to conceive DC1. We ended up with two DC just 16 months apart.

SparkyBlue · 06/11/2023 21:54

Second baby conceived first month trying aged 38.

Boymamaxx · 06/11/2023 22:18

1st was 8/9 months (we had an early loss on month 1)
2nd was 1 month (currently 11+3)

shivawn · 06/11/2023 22:20

Conceived on the first go, 2 months before my 36th birthday.

mumtum2023 · 06/11/2023 22:21

second baby took longer for us, had struggled the first time anyway but had a tube flush and fell pregnant 6 weeks later.

bluesky45 · 06/11/2023 22:21

4 months for both first and second

morechocolateneededtoday · 06/11/2023 22:22

Like you, first one took a while to conceive with a barrage of tests and miscarriages before having DC1. Second was conceived the week I went back to work and DC1 had to cut down on breastfeeding because I wasn’t with them all day everyday. I wasn’t ready but we didn’t use contraception on the assumption it would take another 2 years.

Small age gap was tough in early years but love it now they’re both in school

AgaMM · 06/11/2023 22:24

First was a surprise baby. Second took 6 months.

I’m in mid 30s and DH in mid 40s.

Hiddenvoice · 06/11/2023 22:25

1st baby took 2 years, 2nd baby was first month trying! We were incredibly shocked!

Georgiexx · 06/11/2023 22:27

We were pretty much the same with both, around 3-4 month mark. The only difference was the fact we really ‘tried’ first time and did it a lot 😂 second time it was just somewhere near ovulation and hoped for the best and funnily enough it happened at the same time again.

Definitely allow yourself to recover after the section though. I started trying when my son turned 1 but in hindsight this was really not long to wait at all. I had some complications during the surgery as my scar really hadn’t healed all that well inside and the surgeon said it was at risk of rupturing. Luckily I didn’t fall pregnant straight away or that might have made it even worse! I always thought a year was enough but it seems 18 months to 2 years before falling pregnant again is a safer option

ebts · 06/11/2023 22:42

First, two and a half years. Second a complete surprise, dc1 aged five months, probably the first time he slept for more than an hour at a time! Fourteen and a half months between them. Both in their forties now!

Thanks this is good to know. I’m hoping next time round it’s quicker! 🙏

Thank you 🙏 I’m not getting any younger (36) so I feel like I don’t have 2 years to wait before ttc again. Was thinking of giving it 10 months or a year. Might make an appointment with the gp at some point to check the scar healing on the outside etc.

15 months and the threat of IVF for the first one aged from when I was 32-34.

Second we started trying when our son turned one and I was 35. It took three months (MMC), then eight months (MMC), then an IVF chemical seven months after than and finally the month after the chemical we conceived this one and I'm now 13 weeks pregnant and am 37.

So yes... if you can I'd start as soon as possible as it's so unpredictable how things are going to turn out.

Good luck!

OldTinHat · 07/11/2023 10:19

All DC were conceived the first try. I'm ridiculously lucky in that regard.

Nomnomnom66 · 07/11/2023 11:55

1st 1 month at 33
2nd 7 years later at 41
Unexplained infertility. Never found a reason. Both natural.

notanothernamechange12 · 07/11/2023 17:11

1st baby a surprise and 2nd baby 1st try. Was 28 and 31
