Pregnancy signs when using Cyclogest

Hello,

First time poster!

Been ttc for over a year now and have been prescribed 400mg x2 of cyclogest to take from after ovulation.

I know cyclogest mimics lots of early pregnancy symptoms so it's hard to know but I am 8DPO today and experiencing a change in discharge. I've also had spotting for the last 2 days.

I'm wondering if anyone who has taken cyclogest to support with conception can advise me on what to expect during the ttw (if you got pregnant 🤞🏻) and if you noticed anything different that month?

Has anyone spotted and still got pregnant that month? It's very red so I'm unsure if it could be implantation bleeding...

Any advice on other people's experiences would be so helpful!

Would love to know as I’m 7dpo and on the same dose!

Implantation bleeding is apparently light pink, but it would be strange for AF to start so early…

edit: if you’re inserting it in the front passage, I have read that it can irritate things.

Hi @AutumnMusings!

Is this your first month on cyclogest? How are you finding it?

It's my third month on it. Finding it okay so far but I am spotting for 1 out of the 2 weeks I am on it (which ironically was one of the reasons I was put on it to begin with as I was spotting due to low progesterone!)

Glad you've asked this of others @mper as I too have recently started taking cyclogest TTC. I had it last month after ovulation but then had some bleeding 9DPO/10DPO but BNF 12DPO so stopped taking as instructed.

I wasn't sure if this is normal, but with a few of us being the same, maybe it is.

I've had spotting again this month at 7DPO & 8DPO (today) again, confused as last month thought it could have been implantation bleeding but obviously wasn't.

When you've had spotting is it browny pink?

Such a minefield isn't it!

ladycarlotta · 07/11/2023 19:24

I'm on cyclogest and haven't had any spotting.
I really dislike using it! If you use it vaginally then it's greasy and messy - am getting through a lot of pantyliners - but I find it too irritating to use anally instead. Sorry if that's TMI. Can't wait for it to be over tbh.
I've heard it can make you constipated but I haven't really had that issue.

AppleCrumble3 · 07/11/2023 19:38

How long have you been on it @ladycarlotta if you don't mind me asking?

I've suffered terribly with that 😅 so disliking too...

ladycarlotta · 07/11/2023 21:45

@AppleCrumble3 oh god, ages! I was only advised to start it when I get a bfp though, rather than at ovulation, but it's been 2 years of trying so this is the 3rd or 4th pregnancy I've used it on. I keep wondering whether there would be a benefit to take it from ovulation but god knows what's going on in there. I'm not sure if it makes any difference to whatever prevents me from carrying a pregnancy to term. Sorry, this sounds so bleak. I don't mean it to! There's so little in the arsenal for treating early miscarriage, and I'd rather be taking it than not.

Oh wow, sorry to hear your journey.

I actually think I may try phone to understand if I should stop taking it bec the amount of bleeding has definitely increased and I never had this before taking cyclogest.

ladycarlotta · 08/11/2023 09:52

I think you should give them a call. Has the bleeding stepped up from spotting? It may be that it's irritating your cervix or something as it does seem to be quite harsh but it's strange that it's doing this to you. And not a nice thing to go through at all.

TheBirdintheCave · 08/11/2023 09:55

Hi. I took Cyclogest from 3dpo. I find it doesn't give me any pregnancy symptoms at all and I actually got pregnant that cycle. I'm still on it now at 13 weeks. I wonder if it's because my progesterone was so low that taking it just brings me up to normal levels.

mper · 08/11/2023 09:57

Hi @AppleCrumble3

Sorry to hear it's still happening for you too! It's happened each month for me and my doctor told me it's "harmless" and often happens with cyclogest. Did you spot before you were put on it? That's where my confusion is because I've always spotted and thought cyclogest would help stop that.

I actually got my progesterone bloods done again this month and just got my results this morning. My progesterone levels are now in the healthy, "normal" range so cyclogest is definitely working and the spotting can't be explained my low progesterone now. The mystery continues...🫠 if you get any helpful answers, please share! 😃

That's interesting to know @mper ... I called today and am waiting to hear back. Last month I ovulated late and it ended up being CD27 anyway so thought that could have been why, but this month it started at only CD22 and isn't just a few spots but much more when I wipe. I never had a spotting before, I've been put on it to try lengthen my luteal phase because after being prescribed letrezole that seemed to shorten it.

Glad yours is now doing what it's supposed to be and they've said not to worry about the spotting.

Will see what they say to me when I hear back!

mper · 12/11/2023 09:17

@AppleCrumble3 did your doctor have any advice?

I stopped taking cyclogest as advised after a negative test on 12DPO..the spotting stopped almost immediately and still no sign of my period 5 days later 🫠 still negative though.

How soon after finishing Cyclogest do you normally get your full bleed?

I had regular cycles before but fear this is now messing them up!
