Q please re opks and early PG

If you were in early PG (i mean like a week or 2) if you were doing opk does anyone know what would happen to the results? Because its the same as a PG test isnt it? As in testing your HCG levels? So if you WERE pg could it be a mistake if you got a positive OPK you could actually be PG and not OV?

Yes - they're the same. peeonastick website explains it better but basically OPKs will be positive for pregnancy AND ovulation while HPT positive only for pregnancy. I did an OPK at 4.5 wks pregnant and it was positive, stronger than any positive OPK I had for just ovulation!

It is possible after 2, but only a week after ovulation I would question, since it is unusual to be able to detect HcG in urine so soon.

I would rule out early ovulation (so you would be more pregnant) or late ovulation.

What is you testing history with OPK's this month? It could be that you have a higher 'baseline' LH level.

Time to get the HPT's out methinks!!

HPTs look for HCG

Not the same

The hormones are not the same - but molecularly very similar - so OPK's generally can pick up both, but shouldn't be relied upon as an HPT.

well im only on cd21. since off pill ive been 28,33,30 and 28 last month. Only started doing opks routinely this month. ~On cd11 i thought i had a +opk so bd day 12 and 13 (dh away cd11!) but then on cd 17 i had a +opk so bd that day. Bit onfused as i must of got messed up with the opks?? Did one last night and there wasnt anything.. The most PG i could be is just over 2 weeks and the least is 5 days!

OPK only +ve if line is as dark or darker than the control line.

If you have been stressed or unwell then you may not have OV'd after the first surge so your body will have another go.

Did you ahve other signs of OV?

What I would say is, LH tends to be detected later ni the day, whereas HcG tends to be picked up in first morning urine.

Get the HPT's in and hope you get the result you want!

thanks. I have been testing at around 2pm and then around 7pm. The +opk i got last week was the strongest ive had i think. Ive had alot of cramps, i was talking about it on other thread, i have been feeling very 'periody' from friday just gone.. but then my body might be playing tricks on me as if i come on at cd28 that will be a week today so may be pre menstrual...

it's possible yes, but on the other hand i'm not so sure if you were only 5 day days post iycwim.

time for a hpt I think as well.

sorry i dont get that DTM.?? I think its more likely (if i am pg) that i only got pg last thur/fri (however long it takes for the egg to meet sperm!) so its far to early to do a test isnt it?? like i said if i DO come on cd 28 that is a week tomorrow...

oh yes, sorry I was thinking you'd done the OV test and it was positive so were thinking it would be time for a HPT> am not with it today! lol. i'm not sure of any tests showing a pos either way so early - but then again I might be wrong.

i just did opk and was negative, is that a good indicator that im NOT pg?

I reckon it is too early for either test to pick up HcG but if it was picking up pg hormone, then it should pick it up again tomorrow in first urine. Otherwise, it was a LH surge.

either really. If that is what your OPK picked up before then it should pick it up again.

the one i did early was negative though so i'd say its a no!

I got a positive OPK 10 days post ov with dd2 (afternoon wee)

do you think you OV twice?

No it was defo because of pregnancy as I did a pg test straight after and got a bfp.
