Follicle size and ovulation

Hi,

I had a chemical pregnancy a couple months ago and my cycles have been up the wall.
I have been ovulating, but tend to have spotting around 9-10dpo each month for the past few months.

this month I got my LH peak and the next day went into my fertility doctor for ultrasound and my follicle was 23mm ( he didn’t mention any others although I saw more on the screen) I would have ovulated naturally on my own that day as usually I feel ovulation pain around 24 hours after the peak
my lining was 9.5mm
he gave me a trigger shot and has advised me to have them every 4 days (3 total) and take progesterone along side them to see if that helps stop the spotting and help implantation.

my worry now, is 23mm too big? Am I taking all these drugs for nothing?
