Will a GP prescribe progesterone for a luteal phase deficiency after blood tests confirm low progesterone after ovulation

Or does it have to be a referral

My experience is it has to be a referral to obgyn or fertility, but might not be the same everywhere

Look on the subject of Google.

My GP won't prescribe, nor would a private GP, they both said it had to be a specialist.

Have you had any luck with this ? Xx

I managed to get a prescription from my GP but it took a lot of pushing
And also I was mainly emphasising the symptoms of low progesterone making my life difficult I.E difficulty sleeping hot flashes ect rather than the fertility aspect

Can I ask what dosage you were on? And did you start 3 days after ovulation? I have the pessaries here to start once I get a positive(prescribed in feb) but I haven't been able to get pregnant at all this year, I had 2 losses last year. My progesterone is low but doc says no point taking it as it delays period 🙄 so going to try it and see if it makes a difference

I could only get prescribed 200mg so one pessary a day. Started at 3dpo and took 10, so last one was 12dpo, did a pregnancy test at 13dpo then stopped them as it was negative and started my period 15dpo. So had a 14 day luteal phase which is normal. Before my luteal phase was only 8 days so it seemed to work :)

I don't think it would do any harm! But yeah you won't start your period until you stop it!

Hi, I know this is an old thread but I just wanted to check if anyone has had any success with the progesterone? I'm hoping to ask my GP for it too

Yes I did ! I went private to gynaecologist paid £180 for the appointment he wrote a letter to my GP saying that if I were to fall pregnant I would benefit from progesterone. I fell pregnant and called GP they prescribed it to me.
