I found out I was pregnant a couple of weeks ago. At 6+1 weeks I started bleeding and cramping abit. Never touched a pad but was bright red when I wiped with tiny little clots. I had a private scan the following day at 6+2 weeks which showed a completely empty uterus and clear tubes. I am heartbroken. Has anyone experienced this? The hardest part is not knowing what happened. Did the pregnancy end weeks ago and it’s just taken time to come away? Could the bleeding have been the miscarriage? Is it possible that it was just too small to detect on the scan? My dates are 100% correct as we only had sex once that month. We did have sex again 12 days ago, could I have lost the first and conceived again before the miscarriage? All my pregnancy tests are still quite dark. I’m so confused. Maybe I should just face the reality that’s it’s all over? It’s so hard. Any comments appreciated.

Have you gone to the EPU at your hospital? Private scans are not always carried out by qualified medical professionals. You need to be seen properly.

i Have yes and they have booked me for a scan on Friday. The wait is agony though and i don’t know if I can go through the awful experience of another empty scan 🥺

I agree with what @henrysugar12 said the private scan should have referred you to your local EPU where they will repeat the scan and check your hcg.

I recently had a "Pregnancy of Unknown Location" so I'm aware of how awful they are.

If you get any pains, including in your shoulder, please get to A&E as soon as possible.

When I had an ectopic pregnancy (didn't know I was pregnant) I just felt really run down for a week, didn't have any real bleeding, just pinky brown discharge. As I'd had a baby a few months before I hadn't started my periods again so just thought it was the first one being strange. Had a lot of pain and then started bleeding massively so had to go to hospital. It had started to rupture.

Thankyou guys. I’m not experiencing any symptoms now and bleeding has stopped. Will see what scan shows or doesn’t show on Friday so I can move on from this horrendous experience. I just feel so lost and alone it’s truly awful 😞

I am so sorry this is happening. I had never heard of a PUL before I had one, which sadly turned out to be ectopic.

Have you had bloods taken to monitor your hcg levels? That is really important because if they are going up, it could be a sign of an ectopic.

Nicol12345 · 11/10/2023 21:04

I havnt had any bloods done. No one seems to care if your not in pain.
like when I went for my private scan I was sobbing my heart out and I never got so much as a “I’m sorry for the loss” just a cold hearted woman who said there’s nothing there.
I’m sorry to all you ladies that have gone through heartbreaking losses. This is my first and it’s just awful

I'm so sorry hun, I had PUL which was ectopic and it was also my first. It's devastating. If you've been diagnosed with PUL you need your bloods checked. Contact your local EPU. I thought mine was a miscarriage at first but it wasn't! Take care of yourself xxxxxx

UPDATE

scan today showed empty uterus. They have taken bloods and will again in Sunday to rule out ectopic as my test was still positive. Really hoping all is fine as I want to try again like now!

@Nicol12345 let us know how it goes. What were your bloods today?

When I had my PUL - which ended up ectopic they wanted to operate on me there are then. I was allowed him on the condition I would rest.
Mine couldn't be seen but it was looking like it could have been a miscarriage - hcg was going down by 50% every 48hrs. It was all looking good for 2-3 weeks then I had cramps. Called the hospital and they said to go straight to surgery admissions, had an op and found that it was a ruptured ectopic.

Nicol12345 · 13/10/2023 21:30

I’m so sorry to hear about your horrible experience. I wasnt told my level today as they only just took the blood.
it’s a truly odd feeling actually wanting to see negative tests so that I can start again but instead still getting positives. Life is cruel 😔

I'm so sorry for your loss, I hope you get the results back soon and are able to move forward.

I had a similar experience, it was our first round of IVF, we got a positive pregnancy test and all seemed well. I had a scan at 7 weeks and was told there was no baby just a small sac and was told a PUL needed to be ruled out. My HCG test was negative so was put down to a missed miscarriage - turns out it was likely the medication I was on that stopped me from bleeding. It was absolutely devastating/traumatic so I really do appreciate how you are feeling. Sadly it wasn't my first loss but was the first MMC.

Be kind to yourself and all the best xx

Thankyou for your response. And I’m so sorry for your little lost miracle. It’s so nice that we can all come together and help each other and advise. My hpt was very faint this morning so I’ve started to take ovulation tests as of now. Only 6 days since the bleeding started and a faint line on opk. Can’t wait to see that line get darker so can try again.
