Out of curiosity, how much does your cycle length vary month to month?

I always thought I had “regular” cycles until I started tracking properly with BBT, and have read online that irregular doesn’t just mean very short or long, but also if it varies each month.

In the last year mine have varied from 25-36 days!

is this common? Or do “most” people have a cycle that’s the same length each month? ☺️

The NHS says "A woman's periods are irregular if the gap between them is less than 21 days or more than 35 days", but what you describe I think it's common and not a cause for concern. Mine vary 27 to 36 days over the last few years. I got pregnant the first month I tracked using ovulation strips, unfortunately I miscarried and my cycles since have been shorter.

Yes I thought that, but nhs Scotland website says slightly different:

“Periods can range from day 24 to day 38 of your cycle.
Signs of irregular periods can include:

  • the number of days in between each of your periods is different and keeps changing
  • the amount of menstrual blood changes from one period to the next
  • your periods come closer together – less than 25 days from the start of one to the start of the next one
  • your periods come further apart – longer than 35 days between the start of one and the next one”

I actually do seem to have different blood changes, some months very light, some heavier with clotting etc.

I am probably overthinking this as a concern though!!

My periods can be anywhere from 21 day to 40 and have been that way since I was 14. I concieved DS1 even though periods were irregular, but struggling with #2 ttc.

I often find i'll have a few month the same for example, 33 days, 37 days, 31 days and then it be like 22 days, 25 days, 23.

I also through BBT and OPKs have found I dont ovulate all the time - this year i have ovulated twice (regardless of how long or short the cycle is).

I’m not having periods currently as I’m breastfeeding my 7 month old, but in the year leading up to falling pregnant (ended in mmc then fell pregnant with my baby straight after) my cycles ranged from 26-35 days! Mostly within the 27-32 day period but there were the odd few that weren’t. I wasn’t tracking ovulation at that point, but definitely didn’t prevent me falling pregnant so not always a bad sign!

MrsRetriever · 12/10/2023 14:44

Mine are also within that variation.

Mine were 27 days, like clockwork, until after I had DD1. Then I had two cycles of 36 days, due to late ovulation. I went to the dr and she was completely unconcerned and just told me to keep TTC.Now pregnant with DC2 😊

27-29 days, only had one which was a few days longer and the doctor suspected a chemical pregnancy but I never tested. Even after both my miscarriages it's gone back to 27 days right away (after the first period). Mad really, totally textbook cycles yet I'm suffering with both infertility (how long it takes me to get pregnant is classed under this) and recurrent miscarriage!

Alloveragain3 · 12/10/2023 18:43

About 25 to 30 days or so.

If I'm travelling or very stressed they tend to be longer

Amidlifecrisis · 12/10/2023 18:47

27-29 days, most often 29.
been that way my whole life, including when they returned after long breaks (had no periods until 13 months post partum
twice).

DramaAlpaca · 12/10/2023 18:57

My cycle was always like clockwork, 28 days. Looking back, it made it easy to work out when to TTC. My periods came back about four months postpartum each time, despite EBF.

I realised I'd hit perimenopause at 44 when my cycle started being irregular, anything from 21 days to 42 or more.

I’m 32 years old, was normally 28 day cycle. Last few cycles have been off, 29,3026,32,35. Currently I’m waiting Ave stressing for this months to show up. I’m on day 35, not trying to conceit but still panicking !! What’s going on. I’m trying to calm myself down and put it down to I e started gym 3 months ago, I am nowhere near over doing it tho but go 3 times a week for about 45 mins. Doubt it’s that
