Follicle counting

Hi ladies how do you count the number of follicles? My scan showed 5 follicles on one ovary and 8 on the other so would this just be 13 follicles? I'm 30 so I think that's in normal range? My AMH is low at 3 but I read the number of follicles is more important,
Thanks!

Hey! Yes that's within normal range. Everything I have read says 12-20 is normal range for age 30. I am 29 and have an AMH of 2.9 (back when I was on the implant earlier this year, had it removed in Feb). I got a scan this week and had 7 on one ovary and 6 on the other so also 13 follicles which didn't match up with my AMH at all! AMH doesn't mean anything if you get a scan, it's the follicle number that matters.

@LacedBouquet thank you that's reassuring! My doctor did say she thought my Amh would be higher as its a good follicle count, How long have you been ttc?

@Cloclo93 Yeah so your AMH should correlate to your follicle number but it doesn’t always do that. I had my AMH tested when on the implant and when you’re on contraception it can suppress the AMH level. And then sometimes people just don’t produce lots of the AMH. The main thing is follicle number for sure!

This is my 6th month ttc, I got pregnant months 1,3 & 4 but all ended in chemical pregnancies around 4.5 weeks.
How long have you been ttc?
I’m currently 1DPO and will take progesterone suppositories this cycle

@LacedBouquet interesting I wonder is there anything that's suppressing my Amh levels, did you re test when you took the implant out?
All them chemicals sounds like low progesterone I think that should definitely help you!
I've been ttc for 2 years now gonna get a HSG next month then iui hopefully I'll get that bfp soon I was advised to go with ivf but I wouldn't like to go down that road just yet

@Cloclo93 I think sometimes your follicles just don't produce that much but there's loads of research that says as long as you have a good follicle number, it doesn't matter if your AMH is low.
I think so too and I have a short luteal phase of 8 days so I think my body just isn't allowing embryos to implant properly.
Sorry to hear it has been a long journey for you but I have heard the HSG can really open up your tubes and help! Have you ever had a BFP?

Cloclo93 · 10/10/2023 13:10

@LacedBouquet yeah I'm pretty happy with my follicle count I do seem to be making a mature egg every month we just can't find the reason why noting has happened in 2 years, hopefully the hsg will give some answers! so how long is your cycle, If you have short luteal fase?

Yeah I have a 5 year old DD but no bfp in the 2 years of trying, how about you ? fertility is tricky

@Cloclo93 Thats strange if you have a DD already, did they talk about secondary infertility? Hopefully it’s just a case that tubes were slightly blocked from last pregnancy or something and the hsg clears them out 🙏🙏
My cycle is 21-23 days normally, feel like I’m always on my period lol! And no living children for me, ttc for my first and had several BFPs that all sadly end in clinical pregnancies.

But I’m excited today because I’m 3dpo and due to my progesterone test it looks like I’ve ovulated from both dominant follicles I had this cycle so it means I have two chances 🥰 Hoping one of them sticks 🙏
