Hi guys

So I'm on keto for about a month and everything's going well. Lost a few kg. Doc prescribed metformin and I decided to give it a go for pcos. I have the extended release and took at it at 230pm with lunch (salad and eggs). I started going to the loo at 530pm and have been 4 times. How long will this last? As in from this tablet?! It's slow release so does that mean the effects are up to 12 hrs and I'll be sitting on the toilet most of the night? I do not plan to take this tomorrow and will stick with keto and inositol! After taking inositol for 2 weeks it brought on my first natural period in 3 years. I think I'll just stick with that for now but for tonight how many more hours do I have to endure this :(
Thanks guys.

Oh you poor thing, I think the side effects do tend to be most pronounced when you first start taking it, could you try half a tablet tomorrow and see if the effect is as bad? I wouldn't expect you'll be up overnight on the loo.
Hope it all helps on your TTC journey!

Thank you! Atleast the period came back! I've been to the loo again- hoping the effect of the tablet will wear off soon :(

Appreciate the response back xx

Did they start you off on a smaller dose and work your way up?
I'm going to be completely honest . It took me a full year to adjust to metformin. I was 💩 all the time. It was horrendous. my bowels were in agony and my anus felt like it was on fire 24/7 . It completely ruined my life. I got to the stage I couldn't leave home at all because I just had constant diarrhea all day and night. I was admitted to hospital on occasion for fluids as I was dehydrated and I was having heart pain on the loo.
I'm on standard release. I found the best way to help my body adjust was taking it right before bed. I was able to sleep throughout the night without having diarrhea so at least I was getting a dose in. I found when I took it with some kefir yogurt it helped a little. Try something like yogurt . My diarrhea was a daily thing for months. My insides were so inflamed and I ended up with a damaged left fallopian tube as a result of injury.
I completely stopped metformin for months and started gradually again. I found the above helpful at minimising the side effects ( before bed and thick cultured yogurt) i will occasionally still have runs during day but nowhere near as bad. Were talking maybe once a week which in my opinion is a hell of a lot better than 24.7
