Vasectomy reversal recommendations

As per title really ……. has anyone had one recently that has worked out? My partner had a vasectomy in his 20s (way too young if you ask me, but hey, who am I to comment I guess) and is now looking at reversal after beginning a relationship with me. He’s had it over 20 years, and everything I’ve read suggests that a vasoepididymostomy is likely to be required after longer term vasectomies due to damage or blockages.

We had a consultation with a doctor from one of the Nuffield hospitals and he said he only does the vasoepididymostomy when the tube has been cut too close to the teste to be reconnected vas to vas. He said there was no other reason to. But literally everything I read says it’s not that simple and it’s case by case. So now I don’t really trust him to do a proper job with the best (even if only small) chance of success.

So…. any insights or recommendations gratefully received 😥

Just seen your post. I know it what some time ago now but wondering how you got on and whether your partner had the reversal? X

@Colneysarah We found someone that sounds like they do a more in depth and thorough job, we’re waiting for availability for March so will have to see how it goes

Ok, I hope things work out. It’s so difficult isn’t it.
my partner had a VR yesterday. His vasectomy was 4.5 years ago. Surgeon said it’s difficult to tell if things will return to ‘normal’ as there was a lot of scar tissue which he couldn’t remove. I was quite surprised as I know quite a few people have had VR after 20 years + and all has been successful. I guess it’s just a waiting game x

@Colneysarah best wishes to you and your partner. Where did you go for his VR?

I guess your comment gives me a little bit of hope that just because his has been done 20+ years it doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t work x

Thank you! We went to Mr Swinn at Spire Gatwick. The surgery went fine but unfortunately he has a lot of scarring in both vas which isn’t great. There was only so much he could remove. I was quite surprised given the V was 4.5 years ago. I don’t feel too hopeful if I’m honest. He is recovering okay so we’ll have to wait and see. He wouldn’t have a redo so this is my only chance. I’m also 36 and feel time isn’t on my side. Only time will tell. Xx

@Colneysarah I feel you, I’m 37 and we’re waiting for March dates …. a month before my 38th birthday!

I guess it’s one of those, it will either happen or it won’t and we just have to give it the best chance possible x

My partner had a successful reversal after 16 years. Apparently the key is testing for sperm during surgery, which barely any surgeons do. We went to Mr Henley at Derby Nuffield, after
months of research. He was amazing, and we conceived as soon as we started trying

@Cancando hope you found a surgeon you are happy with. How are you getting on?
