When to see GP

Hi all,

Have been trying to conceive for over a year now. Had a chemical in January '23 and a missed miscarriage at 12 weeks in June '23. TTC our first and am 34 years old, partner is 37. Should we start to think about speaking with GP about testing etc or wait a few more months? I know recommendation is to see GP after a year of trying but just not sure due to the miscarriages! Thanks all!

Hi!
I have no advice unfortunately but we are in the same position. Been trying for 10 months but I have a blocked fallopian tube. I'm not sure when enough is enough and to seek ivf.

Have you had any tests? Eg. Hsg, ultrasound.

Sending love x

You too x it's such a horrible process! Have they given you much advice on next steps with the blocked tube? Only tests I've had done have been hormone tests and amh which all came back fine so I probably do need to think about booking in with GP for further tests! I just keep putting it off thinking this month will be the month but I think now that I've passed the 12 month mark, feel like I need to do something!!

Worth trying for the GP anyway. Maybe they will do the tests since you have had the miscarriages.

Good luck.

I would go to the GP, I went after a year and a half and I was asked by the GP... why didn't I come 6 month earlier?

They only done blood tests and swabs and my husband had to have a semen analysis and then referred us to fertility unit for further tests.

I would go to GP, see what they say. if they say to come back in xx months at least you know that.

Bex4567 · 28/12/2023 20:48

What was your outcome if you don't mind me asking im 37 been trying 5 months terrified of further tests finding something

Hey there. So I went to the GP in the end. They had said that as I had already gotten pregnant twice that it wasn't something to worry about and didn't suggest any further testing. Unfortunately I've gone on to miscarry for the third time so looks like they will do some further testing now. I would say book in with your GP anyway, even if they say to come back in a few months, at least you will know!! Hope it all works out for you! Xx

Thank you for your reply. I hope all goes well for you and you get your bfp soon xx

I would ask for a referral to a fertility clinic for further investigations and not leave it in the GPs hands . Sorry for your loses x
