Ovulation pain every month

I never got any of this whilst using contraception but I've been off it for about 6 months (my partner got a vesectomy) and since I'm getting extreme ovulation pain every month 2/3 days after period ends, my rectum hurts like hell (sorry tmi), lower abdominal pain mostly dull, bottom of my back hurts, again mostly dull. I'm resorting to a hot water bottles and paracetamol I can barely walk 😩. Anyone have any idea why it's so painful? I'm going to see a doctor eventually.

Hello I get really bad ovulation pains just like you describe… I have endometriosis and adenomyosis. It’s probably not what you want to hear but it could be caused by these… or could be an ovarian cyst. Definitely push for a scan and remember that endo and adeno are often not visible (and easily missed by nhs sonographers). I had to go private and my adeno was spotted straight away on ultrasound x

I get ovulation pain too since the birth of my kids, although it could have been there prior to this with me blaming IBS. The timing you describe doesn't fit for ovulation pain though. You ovulate half way through your cycle, not 2-3 days after your period ends.

Are your periods very long or your cycle very short? Seems very 'quick' to ovulate just 3 days after your period finishes... so might not be ovulation related?

I get really uncomfortable bloating and a lot of the same symptoms, for about 12 hours, every month. I get my period exactly 14 days later every time.

I did have a burst ovarian cyst at one point which was 10 times more painful and uncomfortable, but i've had Ovulation pain regularly before that and since (it was 18 months ago). Private scans & gynaecologist didnt find anything else wrong. It seems to just be Mittelschmerz.

@grapesandplums I guess it depends on cycle length and also the duration of ovulation pain. Some people get it for hours, some for days. I get it for over a week… it starts a couple days after my period ends and builds up so from day 7-15 and then I get pain afterwards too as I often get cysts after ovulation (sometimes the follicular cyst can fill with blood after it ruptures and the egg comes out).

Just to add, i sometimes find Buscopan helps.

I would echo what other pp have said. Ovulation pain is definitely a thing, I've suffered badly with it since having kids. For me it's like a dull ache and bloat followed by sharp stabby pains which I guess is when the egg is released. Also get a significant amount of EWCM which combined with the pain kind of makes it feel like a period. Fun times.

Having said that, your timing doesn't seem quite right unless you have very long periods. If you have a typical 28 day cycle you would bleed for 7 days then probably hit ovulation 7 days after that.

I had this, look up acupuncture for it. Mine settled after about 4 sessions and I had suffered with painful periods for years and then ovulation pain after I had my 2DCs. Flowers

@Endomummy So I pinpoint ovulation because I get egg white stringy discharge every time about 3 days after my period which is also with these extreme pains, I would say it's discharge from my period but its quite alot and no blood detected. I'm the same it's gradual till its over and it can be with me for a week, my periods last no more than 7 days but I'm always a week early for my period not on time or late.

Hi, did you ever get to the bottom of this or find anything that helps? I have exactly the same symptoms- a couple of days after my period ends, looking for help ! X

@Endomummy - I know this is an old thread but was wondering if I could ask you about the blood filled cysts? Have you had them biopsied? Have you been told there's anything you can do to stop them? My gynae hasn't been able to give much info, she just said I had her stumped.

When pregnant with DD they found out I had a large (10cm) endometrioma, no symptoms whatsoever so a bit of a shock. I have it removed when I had surgery for an ectopic. I was told I had quite a bit of endometriosis too and they removed most of it while in there. A few weeks later the biopsy results show it wasn't endometriosis but functional cysts filled with blood.
I grew two new ones within 4 months of the op, and they been painful this time. I'm worried they keep appearing. I'm desperate to get pregnant now so we can be done with babies and I can have that ovary removed. I'm worried it's making getting pregnant more difficult.
