Bit of background info - I'm 45 and have 2 DD via IVF. Was diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve 5 years ago so a natural conception now would be unlikely.

I felt a bit off today so did an internet cheapie. The second line has colour although these pregnancy tests will expire next month (had them left over from my last IVF round).

Surely I can't be pregnant at 45 when I was diagnosed with DOV 5 years ago?

@WutheringMights well as they always say... it only takes one egg and one sperm meeting at the right moment... so there is always a possibility, even with diminished reserve etc! I guess it's one of those annoying, 'test again in a couple of days' scenarios... how would you feel if it is a BFP?!

ElleBelleLou · 11/09/2023 18:04

I can see that, and it does look like the start of a positive to me. As above - the possibility is always there! Can you get your hands on a FRER at all?

pinklemonade2 · 11/09/2023 18:26

You can definitely be pregnant at 45. Everyone has diminished ovarian reserve at that age. Some people still get pregnant.

Unfortunately there is a upto 75% chance of miscarriage at 45 www.verywellfamily.com/odds-of-miscarriage-with-specific-risk-factors-2371722 but it's not inevitable.

Mummapenguin20 · 11/09/2023 18:28

That looks positive to me x

WutheringMights · 11/09/2023 18:39

@SnookyPook id be absolutely overjoyed to welcome another baby. My concern would be the higher chance of miscarriage as @pinklemonade2 mentioned.

@pinklemonade2 I had DOV at 40 so my thinking was my ovarian reserve would likely be none existent now.

That looks positive!

WutheringMights · 11/09/2023 18:42

@Mummapenguin20 thank you!

@ElleBelleLou I think I'll test again in 2 days to see if I have a line or if the line is any darker before spending money on a FRER.

How exiting!

Do another first thing in the morning. HCG is always stronger in the first pee of the day! But I'd say that that looks like a positive to me. Congratulations!

MintJulia · 11/09/2023 19:45

I had ds when I was 45. I'd been told I'd never have a family, I lost an ovary & tube a decade earlier and had no children.

Yet DS popped up on the ultrasound my gp suggested when I refused to believe her. 😊

So yes, it's absolutely possible. Good luck

thejadefish · 11/09/2023 19:52

I had a successful pregnancy aged 45 (naturally/no medical assistance) its definitely possible. Congratulations OP, test looks positive to me fingers crossed for you! As PPs have said it only takes one egg!

WutheringMights · 12/09/2023 05:35

@MintJulia what a wonderful surprise it must have been. I'd be the same and in denial until I can see something on an ultrasound.

@thejadefish another positive story. It's so nice to read these this morning.

I can even see the colour in that pic - so it's not even a squinter. Will you test again?

WutheringMights · 12/09/2023 07:04

@NCgoingdry I tested again this morning but the line is very faint. Not helped by some discolouration on the test.

I'll test again tomorrow but I'm wondering if these tests are faulty. They expire next month so maybe I shouldn't read too much into yesterdays result.

Shame, I was feeling excited.

It's definitely still there but yes I see the splodge. Bloody cheapies.

I hope you get the outcome you want 🫶🏻

Ihaveawonderfulpartner · 12/09/2023 07:16

I have pcos and had a baby naturally at 40 then 45 so it's definitely possible. My youngest who is now 7 has just got off my lap after giving me a lovely morning cuddle. Good luck.

ASoapImpressionOfHisWifeWhichHeAte · 12/09/2023 11:26

My great grandmother had her last child at 45, total surprise as she had seven other kids but hadn't had one for over five years at that point and thought the pregnancy was the final knockings of the menopause! Her eldest child- my grandad- was already married, aged 26 and had had my dad, so he has an uncle whose three years younger than him! These things do and always have happened.

Good luck @WutheringMights

WutheringMights · 13/09/2023 10:12

To conclude this thread. My test from this morning is negative. The first test was likely faulty or there's the possibility of it being a very early chemical pregnancy.

I'm thankful everyday for my two IVF miracles and despite being excited about the prospect of adding to our family, there's no sadness today. I am exactly where I'm supposed to be.

Thanks all for your responses. Very much appreciated!

Bottlerecycle · 13/09/2023 12:16

A similar age to you and if I was feeling off - I wouldn’t reach for a pregnancy test!

Bottlerecycle · 13/09/2023 12:16

I am exactly where I'm supposed to be.

I love this.
