How easy is it to 'miss' the LH surge with an OPK?

I have a pretty regular 28 day cycle.

Last month I got a very clear positive OPK on day 11 (about 2pm in the afternoon).

I am on day 14 today and have tested 3 times a day on days 11,12, 13 and 14 and once a couple of times on days 9 and 10 but have not got positive OPK. How easy is it to miss the surge? Can it last only a couple of hours or so, so that you can easily miss it?

Thanks

Yes you can miss it IME - I know several people who have been OV testing while TTC and missed the LH surge despite much testing only to get pregnant that month.

That said, the month I conceived I had exactly the same as you - pos OPK on day 11 the month before then next month nothing until day 15. I thought I was having an anovulatory month but obviously wasn't

Best of luck with your TTC

With my daughter I missed it but fell pg anyway that month (I used Boots own sticks). I am pg again and picked up the surge this time (CB digi). Worth practising around OV time anyway I'd say!

i found them too hard to read so like slinki i got a cb digital which gets it every time and excitingly predicts the fertile days leading up to the surge. hasn't help me get pregnant but passes the time!

I have a very regular cycle (af and ovulation) but I never seemed to catch my surge on ov sticks.

I looked for other signals (mucus, ov pain etc) and that worked for me.

If you want to chart (it's v easy), I can recommend a book called Taking Charge of Your Fertility - it worked first month for us

Thanks for your responses. Like you say I think the best thing is just to 'practice' around when you know your fertile time roughly is

I only caught mine last month because I did additional test about 10pm after getting a slightly stronger negative than the day before...It was gone by morning again.

DIdn't get pregnant right enough but I wonder if I actually ovulated at all. OPK's don't tell you that, unfortunately!

Sometimes if your pee is too dilute the test won't pick up the LH hormone.

I drink tons of water and pretty much nothing else so my urine is always clear and never yellow and very often my OPK won't pick up the surge but I know from EWCM that I am ovulating.

I usually test around 11am

i was doing this everyday and did a random one at 8pm one night, mega +!!

next day at 11 am there was no line again!

I would have def missed that one!
