Hi all,

My partner and I are trying for our first baby. I have been off the pill for 4 months now. We have been actively trying to conceive for the last month. My cycles are currently 35 days long and I'm 27 years old.

Is there anyone else out there trying for their first baby?

How long did it take you to fall pregnant?

Does anyone have any advice?

I'm feeling a bit lonely in the process and can't help but feel a bit lost but desperate to conceive.

Hi! We fell pregnant two months ago very unexpectedly, we are married but young and wanted to enjoy life just the two of us for a bit longer. However, we were overjoyed when we found out and felt so excited. Unfortunately I had an early miscarriage. We are now desperate to have a baby and have tried this month. AF is due on Sunday and today would make me 10DPO however both tests I’ve taken today are negative. I think because I fell pregnant and didn’t even realise I was expecting it to happy with a click of the fingers but it’s not looking likely. When’s your AF due?

@cathie95 welcome to the ttc club! I've not had an easy ride so far - spent 2.5 years ttc with my ex, ended in missed miscarriage at 11 weeks. Then with my current partner we were ttc for 6 months, ended in missed miscarriage at 10 weeks. Back to trying again now, this is my first cycle since MMC (currently 3dpo so spending my days distracting myself, going to the gym, seeing friends etc).

My best bit of advice would be don't let it consume you, even if you feel desperate for a baby. Some people conceive first month, some take a year. Both scenarios are considered totally normal medically. Know your cycles, communicate with your partner about how you are both feeling (if the process goes on a while it can be a bit straining) and make sure you focus on the rest of life as much as possible, do all the fun things! Oh, and make sure you're taking your preconception vitamins or at a minimum Folic Acid (and ideally vitamin D, especially if you get towards winter months).

Best of luck and I hope you don't have to wait long for your BP x

We both took preconception vitamins and used the CB advanced ovulation kit. I think I would have struggled to conceive without ovulation tests as I actually ovulated earlier than my app said I would.

@cathie95 Hiya, I don’t have much advice I can give but just letting you know I’m in the same boat as you! 27, came off the pill 3 months ago and TTC our first baby. The TWW after ovulation can be agonising but I’ve decided not to compare. Everyone’s body and hormones are different. As long as you’ve worked out your fertile window and you’ve done what you can, that’s it.

@KatieJ345 my AF is due on Saturday so I’m thinking to buy this to work out my actual ovulation day. Do you use any app alongside this?

@LW678 hey don’t give up hope. Sorry to hear about the miscarriage.
Some people dont even show a faint BFP until 14DPO so you’ve still got a chance. Until AF actually appears, you’re still in!

@muffin1996 I track my periods on an app which gives me an estimated ovulation date but stopped using it when I realised I ovulated a few days before this. I started using the CB tests and I got peak fertility 2 days after my period ended. This lasted for 3 days so we had sex each of those days and then we conceived. So if I had gone by the app I would have missed the window. I should also say that I used the conceive plus ovulation support vitamins in addition to the preconception ones. They are meant to help regulate cycles if you have long ones.

muffin1996 · 30/08/2023 22:41

@KatieJ345 thank you for this! I might just purchase it. We’re basically DTD every other day so hopefully I have missed it but I think this will be a bit more accurate

my cycles are pretty regular and the app predicts my period pretty accurately. It always has tbh. Do you think taking preconception vitamins can affect it?

KatieJ345 · 30/08/2023 22:47

@muffin1996 I don’t think you necessarily need preconception vitamins but I think they recommend you to take folic acid whilst TTC. I started with pregnacare vitamins right away and for the two months I took them my cycles become longer even though they used to be regular so I stopped. When I switched to the conceive plus ones we conceived. I have seen that other people on here have spoken negatively about the pregnacare ones. Like I said, I don’t think you need to take them (especially if you already take a multivitamin) but I am impatient and wanted to feel like I was doing everything I possibly could to help!
