Hi @Bex4567
I concieved at 40 yrs old and 42 yrs old, honestly hun don't worry about age. Hope you get your positive soon! xx

XenaTheWarriorPrincess · 25/08/2023 14:47

There's something like a 30% chance of pregnancy each cycle when everything is timed right.

So it's definitely possible to get it on the first try and some people do, but it could also take a few cycles to be successful. There's a lot of luck involved in ttc.

Trenchfootinthescottishhighlandstoday · 25/08/2023 14:48

I ttc at 37. Bfp first try.

Totalwasteofpaper · 25/08/2023 14:51

How old is your partner?

fwiw i concieved after 3 months at 37 and 1st month of 37. My DH is younger though and i have good fertility history.

Are you taking CoQ10 and folic acid? If not start now... CoQ10 helps egg quality.

Out of interest... how do your kids feel about it? I'd have hated a toddler around when doing my gcses!!!

Totalwasteofpaper · 25/08/2023 14:52

1 month at 39!

Bex4567 · 25/08/2023 14:54

My kids are fine with it...

My partner is 32 so younger and yes im taking folic acid daily and vit c and d..

My daughter has just her g.s.c.e s and my son won't mind that's not a very positive comment by the way

I find it baffling that there's on 30 percent chance each cycle and we've literally done it twice a day since I came off my period surely the odds are greater 🤦‍♀️

I dont understand it its all confusing
And stressful lol

Unfortunately not @Bex4567 sperm meeting egg is only the first hurdle and probably happens very frequently, but a lot of fertilised eggs fail to implant/develop (maybe around 50% iirc), usually due to chromosomal abnormalities (which is totally normal and happens in healthy couples).

All you can do is keep trying and hope you get lucky. I only got a bfp on cycle 5 of properly tracking, so with perfectly timed BDing.

Some people absolutely get it on the first try, but it's a good idea to prepare yourself for it taking a few more tries.

Whataretheodds · 25/08/2023 15:10

Twice a day is too often - you'll dilute the semen!

XenaTheWarriorPrincess · 25/08/2023 15:17

Sorry @Bex4567 I misread your post I thought you said every 2 days, not twice a day.

You need to do it every 2 days, twice a day can affect the sperm volume and quality.

Bex4567 · 25/08/2023 15:58

My docter twice a day won't effect anything the second time will just have less seman in it...the more the merrier I was told .I work in a gp surgery

The advice I was given by fertility is that at 37 I've a 25 percent chance of pregnancy) and that at this age I should expect 1 in 3 or 1 in 4 to be chromosomally abnormal. It's like plucking eggs out of basket really, you've no way of knowing which your getting any month so for some it can take time, plus not eggs will fertilise anyway nor implant. It's important to be realistic and know that it dosent always happen first month and don't stress yourself . Some people think it should happen as soon as you start trying and it puts alot of anxiety on you as am older woman. Women our age still have 80% chance of a baby after 2 years trying

Bex4567 · 25/08/2023 16:22

Yes its definitely very stressful and do feel pressure for sure...its just so disheartening trying and then failing each month ..im not expecting to catch first month but have everything crossed...

Are you ttoc at the moment

It's such a hurdle.
I caught first moth of retrying in March and it ended in ectopic pregnancy with emergency tube removal.
We are now trying again this first cycle.

MrBigsCat · 20/12/2023 21:35

I’m onto cycle 7
i ended up having 2 chemicals back to back on cycle 3 and 4 so I’m glad we can conceive together. Hoping for 2024 bfp!!
af due on Saturday but I’ve already started spotting so I know this isn’t my month

Bex4567 · 20/12/2023 21:37

Sorry to hear about your chemicals have you had any tests done ...they say after 6 months so go docters if your over 35

OP posts:
MrBigsCat · 21/12/2023 07:38

Yes I’ve had 21 day bloods done which were satisfactory and gp said the chemicals are a good sign so just to keep trying
I don’t think I’ll get much else apart from that as we have said if it happens it happens within the next 2 years or so.
have you had any?

Bex4567 · 21/12/2023 08:15

No I havnt this is month 5 and I'm too scared to go docters for tests and scans incase they find something worrying 😢
