Over 35 and ttc but worried about my chances

I am ttc my 2nd dc but all of the literature out there would have you believe that you don,t stand much chance after the age of 35.

Is it really all doom and gloom for us older ones ttc.
I am 37 and it makes me panic.

How many of you where about my age and manged to concieve okay perhaps my fears can be laid to rest.

Hi lostittoday I had first child 2 months before I was 35, my second when I was 36, third when I was 38 and 4th when I was 39 I am now 42 (43 in 2 months) and am pregnant and due either at the end of oct or begin of November so stop worrying you have done it before so you can do it again. Try using OPK's if your not already using them and tem
ping its really easy to do, there is a temping thread here on the conception topics and they are a nice bunch of girls that could offer you support. Also very important to check your cervical mucus to help you pinpoint when your about to ovulate, good luck x

It took me six months to conceive DD1 when I was 31.

Six to conceive DD2 when I was 34.

Fell pregnant on accident when I was 36, although had a m/c.

And fell pregnant again one cycle after the D&C for m/c and I'm 37.

Go for it!

Hey I am 35, trying for my 1st. Don't be down, its more than possible - my mum was 36 when she had me, and that was considered ancient back then LOL

Was 37 and concieved DS the first month of vaguely trying.

Am now 38 and trying for #2 and will probably be TTC forever to make up for luck with first!!!

Well I conceived DS without trying (he was a very unplanned but now much loved surprise) at the age of 39.

First time trying with second at age of 37

Got pg with dd when I was 34, only 6 weeks after meeting partner , pg accidentally at 36 the only time we took a risk (though had a mc) and am now pg again, conceived just after turned 37, probably the only time we again did it at the right time, so there is hope. Good luck

Certainly not doom and gloom for me. Got pregnant with DD1 after trying for 2months at 40. Then did the same with DD2 at 42. Realise I've been extremely lucky and am eternally grateful, but goes to show the drastic fall in fertility certainly isn't universal. Two friends have just also had "surprise" pregnancies in their early 40s.

I'm 39 and expecting baby no.4 in a few weeks! A friend of mine had a surprise baby at 43 and my boss had her second at 41!
It took me longer to conceive ds3 and ds4 than it did to conceive ds1 and ds2 but we did get there!

Conceived ds1 within the first month of trying at 35 and a half (!) and many of my friends who are the same age only took a month or so . One had a m/c after her first but then went on to conceive no 2 a few months later. s-i-l has 3 dc's at 37,39 and last one 6 months ago at 42.....Most of their friends have had 2/3 children and all are a similar age - over 35 and lots have 2/3 even 4 kids. I too am ttc #2 and am now 37 going on 38 - not made a huge amount of effort yet and have been ill a lot recently - but I've joined the temping thread and am doind OPK's now and checking mucus. Means we can keep the bding to the minimum !!. The only think I do know is that m/c is more common amongst my friends and s-i-l did have 3 m/c's before no 3 arrived.....that's the negative side of course but you might be lucky- good luck.

I concieved DD at 36 and DS at 39, after 5 or 6 months of not trying too hard IYSWIM.

I am 35 and ttc second. Although we are not actively trying very hard, yet am obsessed.
Dh said lets just enjoy and see how it goes -I must relax.

I was 36 with 1st dc , now ttc no 2(37) but nottrying that hard currently . I am glad to be an older mum .. I may have had more energy in my 20's but I was too busy partying to have babies !! plus did not meet my dh till my 30's !!!good luck

Took 6mo to conceive at 34, 1 month to conceive at 36 and well, I'm now 40 and accidentally fell pg without even trying - no.3 due in May and I can't wait. I also have 2 friends around your age also expecting - no dramas for them either regarding conception.

I conceived dd at 37, two months after having coil removed, the first month dp didn't come near me much as I'd freaked him out with warnings that I could get pg immediately. he expected us to take a year or so...

ds was concieved when one night his dad and I couldn't be bothered to get to bedroom for the condoms..... but I was only 26 back then

I don't expect it will be that easy when dp and I finally sort out our ishoos and get around to bd. My friends know how desperately I want to be ttc, I am 41 now.

I am 33 and have had 2 mc in the past ( right when I came off the pill) I am also worried that my age is affecting the reason why I can't hold onto a pregnancy. I have had tests and they have all come out normal. We have just started TTC last month, but nothing happening so far.....I guess we'll just wait and see............

I was 40 last August, I gave birth to bouncing baby boy in December.

I have just had my first at 36, and was worried before she was conceived that I wouldn't be able to.

I read something very reassuring about women in Victorian England - they tended on average to have their first child in their early twenties, but their last at about 42. So regard yourself as just skipping DCs Numbers 1-9, and having only DCs Numbers 10 and 11.

And once you do get up the spout, take with you the knowledge that at my geriatric age I had the easiest pregnancy of anyone I know - not a single instance of nausea, tiredness, anything! I was even back in my pre-pregnancy jeans on getting home from hospital. I wouldn't ordinarily brag but makes me smug in the face of people who bang on about shrivelled old eggs and DNA unravelling like a jumper caught on a nail.

Additionally, there is an almost 50% increase from ten years ago in the number of women over forty who are now having babies. The rate for women aged 40 and over increased fastest, by over six per cent from 11.5 per 1,000 women aged 40-44 in 2005, to 12.2 in 2006.

The number of live births in England and Wales to mothers aged 40 plus was 12,103 in 1996 and 23,706 in 2006.

A woman I know had the gall to suggest yesterday that her 37 year old friend who had been dumped by her long term boyfriend had 'Just had any chance of having children taken away from her'!
