Ovulation stick question

Hi all,

I am currently using natural cycles since the start of the year (haven’t been actively trying to conceive this whole time), and the past couple of months I’ve started using ovulation sticks. I haven’t been using them consistently, but each time I have I’ve never received a positive test. But my cycle is in sync with natural cycles and I have the temperature spikes etc that would be expected

has anyone had experience of this? Can I ovulate and not get a positive LH test? Granted they are cheap ones from Amazon so that could be it but they had good reviews!

When are you using the sticks? Some of them you are supposed to use with your first wee of the day but lots of them you are supposed to wait until later on in the morning as that's when LH typically surges. I used to limit myself to one glass of water after my first wee and then test with my second after a two hour or so hold.

@Divamuffin I have found that the CB digital advanced are the only test that have worked for me as I used to get faint lines on the cheap ones and it was too difficult to guess when peak fertility was. Both times I have conceived have been when we had sex on solid smiley CB.

@applesandmares it tends to be in the evening after work, so do you think a surge only shows for a short time?

@KatieJ345 yes that’s all I’m getting is a faint line. Thank you, I will need to look into the digital one

I used the cheap ones, tested at about 11am and then again at about 7pm (sometimes times may vary) I got my positive on CD17 and this time I actually noticed my CM was very watery and also had ovarian pain, then followed by a spike in my BBT the next day. It’s costly using 2 per day but it should definitely show your peak :)

@Longtobe2023 thank you, ok that’s interesting maybe I need to try twice a day. How do you manage this when you’re at work though?! I’m out the house from 8am, evening should be fine

It definitely sounds like you need to be testing twice a day. My tests usually only stay positive for a couple of hours so I need to test morning lunch time and evening to ensure I catch it.

If you need to test at work, I'd recommend testing early lunch time (hold your wee for a few hours) take your bag to the bathroom. You'll need your pee cup or whatever you usually dip your test in, a small bottle of water, the test and a Ziploc bag. Pee in the cup, dip the test and while you wait rinse the cup with the water, put it in the Ziploc bag and then put the test in the period bin once you've got the result. Wash the cup properly when you get home.

Finally got a positive test at 8pm tonight :)
