We have just started TTC. We’ve had a few friends who have babies and they seem to be in 2 camps: those who got pregnant month one or two of trying or those who have taken years and then needed help. How long did it take people to conceive their first? I’m excited but so nervous to start trying so would like to hear stories about people who were in the middle ground! I do know that everyone is very different so can’t predict if/when we will have one!

Took 18 months, conceived without assistance

MrBigsCat · 11/08/2023 18:06

#1 2.5 years!!
#2 4 cycles
#3 4 cycles

MrsC2018 · 11/08/2023 18:07

First 2 years, conceived first month of clomid
Second 4 years and IVF
Third, not trying didn't know i could get pregnant (MMC)
Fourth second month trying (MMC)
Fifth first month trying (ectopic)
Sixth first month trying (early pregnant though, so let's see how this goes)

So I'm both camps in my history!

weegiemum · 11/08/2023 18:20

Dd1 - first month
Ds - second month, after a mc
Dd2 - we weren't trying at all, in fact I had a mirena coil!

ASoapImpressionOfHisWifeWhichHeAte · 11/08/2023 18:21

8 cycles with DD1, 1 with DD2. Very similar stories for most of friends aside from those who ended up needing intervention.

teenysaladandsniffofarose · 11/08/2023 20:23

FoodFann · 11/08/2023 20:36

thejollytrolleydolly · 11/08/2023 20:48

DD1 3 years of trying

Second pregnancy 3 cycles in but ended in MMC

currently on cycle 3 of trying again for baby #2 x

TheHopefulMum · 11/08/2023 20:53

DC1 - 1 cycle, first one after stopping contraception
DC2 - Conceived while on the pill (clearly not careful enough)
DC3 - 1 cycle, first one after stopping contraception.

We have been extremely lucky.

Bookchildtable · 11/08/2023 20:58

59 (including 6 cycles of clomid). Had iui and was pregnant on 1sttry.
Second time - 6 cycles of fertility treatment.

My sibling got pregnant three times on first cycle. My sister in law had 18 months of trying plus one round of iui.

Everyone's different.

DS 10 months
1st cycle with current pregnancy, bit of a shock

LT2 · 11/08/2023 21:10

First month when I was aged 30. I decided to use ovulation testing so that helped to know exactly which day to try!

Susurrar · 11/08/2023 21:16

7 cycles for me. I wasn’t tracking the cycle in any way or aiming for ovulation. It was basically just 7 months of unprotected sex.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 11/08/2023 21:41

First month but earlier than the app said I should try/that I'm ovulating, so star trying as soon as your period is over x

TeddyBeans · 11/08/2023 21:43

Second cycle first pregnancy, sixth cycle second pregnancy

Lovebeingamummy2 · 11/08/2023 21:57

aintnospringchicken · 11/08/2023 22:13

DC1 1st month
DC2. 4 months

EarringsandLipstick · 11/08/2023 22:41

2nd month each time (3 DC + a MMC). Very fortunate.

USaYwHatNow · 11/08/2023 22:43

Decided to TTC in the September, fell pregnant first cycle. Miscarried at 6ish weeks. Fell pregnant 1st cycle the next time and now have an 11mo DS.

Whoisdis · 11/08/2023 22:58

5 months ttc first, unfortunately miscarried but got pregnant quicker than expected!
Ttc again and hoping for a bfp quicker now! 🤞

moosey89 · 12/08/2023 08:45

1st Pregnancy 2.5 years
2nd Pregnancy 6 months
Both ended in MMC so still no kids yet

Turtlegurl888 · 12/08/2023 09:01

First try using ovulation strips but wasn't on birth control for 10 years prior and we didn't actively prevent. I assumed we would struggle when we did start TTC hence hoing straight to strips. Turns out I was ovulating MUCH later in my cycle than I presumed/is "normal"

SarahShorty · 12/08/2023 11:08

1st cycle - chemical
6th cycle - chemical

1st ICSI FET - chemical
2nd ICSI FET - no implantation

18 months all in and naff-all to show for it. I'm going to be 36 in couple of months. DH will be 35.

Some couples are super-duper-pooper-scooper fertile, some couples aren't. The general advice is to keep trying and don't lose hope. I've lost hope, but am always trying.

sunshinenshower · 13/08/2023 09:01

Yes it seems to be one extreme or the other. We were (very fortunately) in the better of the 2 extremes

Pregnancy 1 - first cycle and first ever time TTC. Resulted in miscarriage.
Pregnancy 2 - 4 cycles
Pregnancy 3 - first cycle

I was doing all of the ovulation checks & testing - tracking cervical mucus, clear blue OPK, tracking BBT so I had nailed ovulation timings.

Started taking COQ10, folic acid, Vitamin D and B12 daily months before officially starting TTC (recommended by a nutritionist) and had been doing acupuncture for a few months in between pregnancy 1 and 2 as my cycles were a bit off after the MC. We also used preseed. I'll never know if any of this actually helped or if we were just very very lucky but worth adding to the mix if you can afford it.
