Short Luteal Phase

rosecbrm · 10/08/2023 08:20

Morning all,

I have just started cycle 1 of TTC #1 and I'm a bit on a control freak/worrier and have been looking into everything 😂

I have noticed that the past 2 cycles my luteal phase has only been 10/11 days, which I know is quite short.. my cycles have only been 26/27 days when normally they are around 28/29.

The previous months before that though I was getting very light spotting in the couple of days leading up to my period, which I didn't actually count as a period as I didn't even need to use any sanitary products it was that light! But then my luteal phase was around 12/13 days if I didn't count those spotting days (when I say spotting it was literally nothing, just a tinge of pink when I wiped)

I am starting pregnacare pre conception this month which I have read can alter cycles, is this going to work in my favour and extend my luteal phase?

Basically I am just panicking that there I something wrong and is there anything else I can do to lengthen my luteal phase, or am I just worrying for no reason?

Sorry for the long post, TIA! X

Hi there! I fully understand your worries, I was there!! My luteal phase was even shorter, 7-9days. I started taking vitamin b complex and pregnacare and to be honest, it didn't help much 😂 also looked into progesterone supporting foods and foods that help ttc. None of it really helped with the short luteal phase but I am currently 14 weeks pregnant after 10 months of ttc!! I have become a bit obsessed with all this stuff but research is still meagre on short LP. It shows however that it doesn't usually impact your chance of getting pregnant and especially with 10/11 days I would say you don't have to worry about it too much =) if you're still struggling to conceive jn a while you can have a look into your hormone levels such as progesterone but more often than not a slightly shorter luteal phase is very natural as we are all different! Best of luck and I hope it happens for you very soon!

@Veralia thank you so much for your reply! That is very reassuring and also a huge congratulations on your pregnancy!

There is just so much to worry about isn't there! But thank you so much again xx

@rosecbrm I also have a 10 day luteal phase and got pregnant quickly, so I wouldn't worry about it! Sending lots of baby dust

rosecbrm · 04/09/2023 10:29

@Lily124 thank you so much!

I'm currently 9/10 dpo and had a BFN on a FRER and what I think is an evap on an easy @ home!

I know it's early so I'm holding onto a bit of hope.. we shall see!

Thank you so much for your reply xx

Spotting pre period doesn’t count as period so your luteral phase is 12-13 days which is fine.

I always spot before my period, in fact now a days I spot more than I flow lol.

MoonlightDreamer · 04/09/2023 11:21

I honestly don't know if it helps as my luteal is already long but red raspberry leaf tea, beside strengthening your uterine lining is supposed to lengthen your luteal phase. I've seen some women with luteal defects discuss it before

rosecbrm · 04/09/2023 13:24

@MoonlightDreamer @Twizbe thank you both very much!

I've been taking the pregnacare pre conception vitamins this month so I'll see if that has any affect on my LP, if not will give the raspberry leaf tea a go!

Thanks again 😊 xx

Hi @rosecbrm just wondering how you got on with your LP in your latest cycle? Mine is 7-9 days, just started AF yesterday which was 8dpo on my second cycle after a missed miscarriage in August, and I have been reading how a short LP can also cause early miscarriage so I’m wanting to try and lengthen this as I’m ttc now

rosecbrm · 05/10/2023 21:20

Hello @Bali200

I actually fell pregnant that cycle but it did end in miscarriage unfortunately . Not sure why, but my luteal phase this cycle has been 12 days so far so I don't think it was anything to do with that.

I take the pregnacare pre conception vitamins which seemed to lengthen mine by a day or two.

I do usually get spotting before af at around 10dpo, but I don't count that as my period x

Also I'm so sorry to hear about your miscarriage xx

Hey @rosecbrm ahh I just realised we are on another thread together 😌 I’m so sorry for your loss too, it’s really shit isn’t it.

12 days is good, where are you up to now in your cycle? I was taking pregnacare conception until last Friday and stopped taking it because I heard it could mess up cycles, didn’t realise that it might potentially help me with my short LP if it did 😭😂 so I’m going to start taking them again.

Were you on the pill before ttc? I was on mini-pill which is progesterone only for about 6 years and I think that’s what’s causing my short LP.

Although I only learned about short LP’s after my loss, and therefore after I had fallen pregnant, I’m now stressing over not being able to fall pregnant 🙄 because I’m a total worrier haha x

rosecbrm · 06/10/2023 11:38

@Bali200 oh yes! It's so nice to have others to speak to who have been through the same thing!

So it's a bit of a strange one for me, last cycle I had a very faint positive pregnancy test, but then started bleeding the same evening (was around 12/13dpo I think) so assumed it was an evap or something and the bleeding was my period.. but it only lasted a day or 2 but at the time I didn't think much of it.

A week later, I had some spotting which is really unusual for me mid cycle and just an urge to do a pregnancy test which came back very positive! But I also had cramping etc so I knew something wasn't quite right.. my spotting lasted for about 2 days at this point, just very very light.

GP told me the bleeding which I thought was most likely implantation bleeding and sent me for some blood tests and I also had a private scan which showed no sack (would've been over 6 weeks at this point), but my blood test showed my HCG level to be low, they repeated the bloods 48hrs later and they declined so was told it was a loss unfortunately.

It's been 2 weeks since then and I am currently cycle day 29 if I do count that bleeding at the start of my previous cycle as a period (not IB), period was due yesterday but nothing yet. I've had some spotting since Tuesday though.. not sure if I even ovulated this cycle as with everything going on and finding out I was infect pregnant I obviously didn't track anything at all!

But if I did ovulate, it's usually around cycle day 16 so my LP would be 13 days if I don't come on today and don't count the spotting!

I haven't been on the pill for around 18 months now so my cycles are regulated and generally are very regular give or take a day or two, between 26-28 days.

When did you come off your pill? It might be that your body is still regulating hence the short LP.

I am in the exact same positive as you, because I do have spotting around 10DPO I do keep questioning everything, it's so hard not to xx

I really don't know where I'm at with my cycle tbh.. it would make sense that the pregnancy was a chemical pregnancy because of the bleeding, but my tests were actually stronger after the bleeding happened so I really don't know!

@rosecbrm oh wow that sounds like such a nightmare, I’m so sorry you’re going through that, and it must be so difficult not knowing what’s going on or where you’re up to. It’s so hard when you can’t do anything but wait isn’t it 😔 probably a silly question but have you done a test to check your hcg levels have returned to 0? It took 3 weeks for me to get a negative test after my mc.

I came off the mini pill at the end of Jan and didn’t bleed until the end of March (57 days). My periods were very light, only 2 days long and quite dark in colour (sorry if TMI). I only had 3 of them before I conceived on the June cycle accidentally, we were wanting my body to regulate after coming off the pill and because I was changing jobs we wanted to wait, but all my cycles were really short (24-25 days).

Even my first period after the mc was only 2 days long, very light and dark brown in colour. This is now my second period after my MMC, it’s a lot heavier than I’ve had before and it’s bright red, so hoping actually that it’s a positive thing and it’s my body sorting itself out a bit but it’s horrible trying to be patient isn’t it! xx

anywherehollie · 06/10/2023 14:34

My LP has always been 9/10 days and I have been pregnant 6 times on the first try. I think you only need to be concerned if it's less than 9 days from what I have read

rosecbrm · 06/10/2023 14:54

@Bali200 oh bless you sounds like you've really been through it too!

Yes, I had to have another blood test a week after just to confirm the loss and my levels were at 1 (this was last week) so it's out of my system now.

Nothing is TMI here I find, my periods in general are quite light too. I'm having cramps etc today like it's going to arrive but still only spotting for the time being..

You're right, it's so hard and actually one of the most frustrating parts is you just have to wait.

Hopefully we'll get there though and all of this will be worth it xx
