Positive this morning then negative

Hiya

Looking to see if people have been in similar situations,
Tested this morning and a second line came up straight away.
Went to sleep (on night shifts) and tested again when I woke 8 hours later, negative! I did another two cheapies from the same urine they were all negative too.

Period not due till around Friday next week so understand it is very early but confused as the test that showed positive came up instantly, just thought all tests following this would be positive.

Has anyone been in a similar situation?

TIA

This happened to be just over 12 months ago on similar tests and I ended up having a chemical pregnancy.

that doesn’t mean that it will be the same for you, but just so you are prepared that it could happen.

Thank you for responding

I had a chemical earlier on in the year,
Positive test in the evening and went to do a test following morning and was bleeding and negative.

Already protecting myself and hoping this situation doesn't happen again, trying not to get excited

Hook effect

Try diluting the urine with a bit of water and re test

Roses5678 · 06/08/2023 18:47

What is the hook effect?

What is the hook effect?

False negative result where the HCG overwhelms the pregnancy test

In the absence of bleeding and positive test earlier, I'd try diluting the urine and retesting

Sometimes works

Hook effect is rare 0.1-2% of assays are effected

Worth a go IMO 😃

Hook effect doesn't usually happen like that! It takes a really high HCG reading to get a negative because of hook effect. How far along are you OP, what DPO are you? Most likely answer is a faulty pregnancy test or a chemical pregnancy.... but first thing is figuring out if you could have implanted already or not which depends on your ovulation date and cycle length.

@moosey89
Period was 15th July, average cycle has been about 28 days since they've returned to normal since chemical back in march. If were going by a 28 day cycle and ovulation on 14th day it wouldve been the 28th July. I didn't track ovulation this month as I gave up with it all lol.

I did another one of these tests yesterday morning to which I think I can see the faintest ever line. Then the one I did this morning came up literally within 2 minutes

I would do another on tomorrow morning. Good luck Smile

moosey89 · 06/08/2023 21:46

I'd say wait a few more days then test again as you might only be 8dpo - could be good news but wouldn't want you to get your hopes up without a clear answer! Keeping everything crossed for you!

Did a boots early test and a cheapie this morning, both negative :(

Must've been a false positive
