Just wondering what's your thoughts on acupuncture. You think its worth it ?
Do you feel it might have helped implantation or did it do nothing for you. Tia

I am not normally the sort of person who believes in this sort of thing, but it did it for me, first month, twice, after months of trying both times.

GrimDamnFanjo · 05/08/2023 16:27

I had acupuncture too during my clomid treatment. It was successful. My acupuncturist now is Louise at thejadecentre.co.uk she I'd in Leeds but many acupuncturists offer fertility support.

HopefullMumto4 · 05/08/2023 16:43

I haven't used it for TTC but the hospital I was registered at when pregnant with one of my babies offered it as a way to bring on labour - it absolutely did nothing for that part 🙈

But I'd be interested in hearing about using it for TTC

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 05/08/2023 16:45

Where my relation lives in America it's standard to do it while having IVF.

NeverMrsAgain · 05/08/2023 16:46

Studies I have seen are that it works as well as a placebo, but being as the placebo effect is real, that means it works! (Presumably through relaxation effects, rather than for the reasons acupuncturists say that it works).

dabs9 · 05/08/2023 17:42

It did absolutely nothing for me with regards to TTC. Didn't help me get pregnant (started acupuncture April 2022 and have still never had a BFP) but it did help me to feel more relaxed and calmed my anxiety a little.

GingerFox2021 · 05/08/2023 19:02

2 years of acupuncture and nothing. 🤷‍♀️
but I know many claim it did help them.

NotARegularMum · 05/08/2023 20:03

Being trying to concieve since having a mc in nov 2022, had my first session of accupuncture at the beginning of July and just got my positive a couple of days ago!

justanotherlaura · 05/08/2023 20:14

I had a chemical pregnancy then didn't get pregnant on my first cycle so started acupuncture. I fell pregnant that next cycle. I'll never know if I'd have fallen pregnant anyway but I'll definitely try it again if we decide to have a second

CR7 · 05/08/2023 20:37

I had it during my three rounds of ivf. Two didn't work and one did so I can't say whether it worked or not. What I can say is that it definitely made me relax x

Feckedupbundle · 05/08/2023 20:41

It worked for me. 3.5 years of unexplained infertility, clomid, lap and dye tests, nothing worked. Was told by our consultant that it'd never happen naturally and to go away and think about adoption or go onto a very long waiting list for IVF ( by the time we would have gotten to the top of the list,I'd have likely been deemed 'too old' to treat.
I went for acupuncture, and was pregnant within weeks, with no other treatment at all. Sadly it was ectopic, and I was told by the consultant that it was incredibly unlikely that I'd ever conceive again, and if by the rarest chance I did,it'd likely be ectopic again and could kill me.
Being bloody minded,I went back to the acupuncturist, and was pregnant again,6 weeks after my ectopic. Had DD1,and got pregnant again a year later with DD2,at first attempt, with no acupuncture or other treatment at all.
I'm not woo at all,but it worked for me.

FoodFann · 05/08/2023 20:42

No. Load of codswallop

phobiaofsocialmedia · 05/08/2023 21:43

I did it - completely regulated my cycles and I was pregnant within 3 months after 2 years TTC.

I've had it through the NHS so unlikely to be 'codswallop.'

ChaliceinWonderland · 05/08/2023 21:55

Am having it for migraines... seems to help. So relaxing...

moosey89 · 05/08/2023 22:17

I've just started it so not sure about effectiveness but I'm combining that and reflexology to help me relax and regulate my cycles and help emotionally. Even if it's a placebo effect I'll be happy if it helps 🤷

Ellamoo2023 · 05/08/2023 22:20

Yes! I was so sceptical of this but thought I had nothing to lose! Very similarly to a previous poster, worked twice, first treatment after a long time of trying. I couldn't believe it!

LoveYouHoneyBadger · 05/08/2023 22:23

Thanks for the replies. I might give it a go. I've read articles that it can improve blood flow to the uterus which is my aim and its nice to hear it helps relax you that's definitely a bonus. Ttc is extremely stressful

I had it as my period disappeared for nearly 5 months following an mmc.

Got my period within 2 weeks.

Had it for 18 months in total, got pregnant within 6 months of period returning and had it throughout pregnancy. Not sure it was the acupuncture but it did relax me a lot

MyView2 · 05/08/2023 22:29

Yes, it worked for me too. Unexplained infertility and got it during ivf although the acupuncturist told me he thought he could have sorted me out without the ivf. Either way, I was delighted and I referred my friend on too when she was having trouble conceiving, she got pregnant without the need for IVF.

Acupuncturists train for years, I think mine had 7 years training (but I see in the UK it's 3 years). I am a trained reflexologist and went to see a reflexogist who specialised in fertility before that but it had no effect.

oliveroses · 05/08/2023 22:31

I had acupuncture for seven months until I conceived - I have no idea if it helped but it was very relaxing and I really enjoyed it! I also liked being able to talk to my acupuncturist about my cycle, fertility etc - she was the person who really listened. I have also heard fabulous things about reflexology, which apparently works fast if it's going to work for you. I had a session and I think I was already (just) pregnant at the time but wow, it was the most relaxing thing I've ever experienced!

WonkyFeelings · 06/08/2023 05:54

Professional acupuncturist here. There have been plenty of studies about the effects of acupuncture (I particularly like the ones where a functional MRI showed different parts of the brain activate when needling different acupuncture points).

Acupuncture in the UK is not regulated, so anyone can call themselves an acupuncturist after a weekend course. It is scary! So when looking for an acupuncturist I recommend you look at their training, you want someone with a minimum of three years at degree level, and for this specific instance also look for someone who has undertaken postgraduate training in fertility.

I wish you the best.

You might consider giving EFT tapping a go - basically like acupuncture without the needles with the addition of positive psychology. There are loads of videos on YouTube or better still you can connect with an EFT practitioner who can custom make you a script or video to suot your own personal situation.
Best of luck!

No, EFT while a fantastic technique, is not “like acupuncture”. Acupuncture has Traditional Chinese Medicine as a model of health and disease, and uses its patterns for point prescription and treatment planning. EFT does not do that.
