Hypothyroidism and Pregnancey

Hi,

I have a TSH of 3.8 and normal T4. I am worried as I have seen that for conception TSH needs to be under 2.5. My doctors think my levels are fine. Does anyone have anyone have any experience of this?

Have they checked TPO antibodies?
research is on the fence about treating (TTC)mother for levels that are borderline hypothyroidism in a normal setting. I conceived easily with a TSH of 4.8.
I think the 2.5 guild line is set by IVF but unless you are ranging hypothyroid they are hesitant to medicate!

Also if your periods are regular I think even less of a reason to act on TSH when TTC. But I’d push for a re-test when pregnant!

Hey! Mine was about 6.5 when I started ttc back in 2021. Doc said we could see ‘how I get on’ but I pushed for even just 25mg of levothroxine as my periods are irregular and anything I could do to increase my chances from the get go, I wanted to do!!

I am now 10 weeks pregnant with my 2nd baby! Honestly feel like levothroxine definitely helped me! I was on 75mg throughout my first pregnancy and this pregnancy I am already on 125mg as after having my LG my levels increased!

I would push even for the lowest dose to see what it does for you, as the other poster said, especially if your periods are irregular

I’m not in the UK but my endocrinologist always wants my TSH under 2 whilst pregnant and we monitor it very closely (blood tests every 3-4 weeks) I think it’s most important in the first trimester.

I wasn't able to conceive for 3 years with a TSH of 3-4. Had 3 rounds of IVF fail and told I had bad egg quality despite being 30.

Had a new fertility consultant who decided to give me levothyroxin as a last ditch attempt at conceiving with my eggs as my borderline TSH was the only thing she could think of might be causing the IVF to fail. 3 months after starting it i fell pregnant naturally.
