Do ovulation pains and +OPKs come before or during ovulation?

The title says it all really.

I am trying to work out exaclty when I ovulated.

If I had sharp ovulation pains on a Saturday night and a positive OPK on the Sunday morning, then on what day am I likely to have actually popped the egg out?

The ov pain is the egg bursting through the wall, so I guess as soon as it has burst through it can be fertilised?

Am not 100% sure though.

so after the egg is released the hormone (or whatever teh kit tests for) is present?

Thanks, I thought the pain must be the acutally act of ovulation. But that does not fit with the fact that 12 hours after the pain I got a positive OPK. according to the OPK box a positive result means you are having a LH surge and this preceeds ovulation by approx 36 hours.

How could I have ovulated before the LH surge?

I think the hormone that shows up as a positive on the sticks is the hormone that peaks to trigger the release of the egg.

Or something like that

Ov sticks have never worked for me, but I can give a big thumbs up to a book called Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It explains what happens to the body from day 1 of your cycle and onwards.
