Hello,
I'm trying letrozol 5mg for iui but am unsure what to expect and google doesn't seem to have much info. Can anyone tell me how many follicles they produced on letrozol? I'm hoping for more than one but wonder if this is likely? I'm 37 and ovulate normally so this is just to boost chances. We are a same sex couple using frozen sperm.

@Arthursmom so no trigger shot for me as I had a positive ovulation test this morning so now I have just to wait patiently...hate that phase... ! Hope you had your positive official test and you can relax and enjoy! xx

Arthursmom · 13/09/2023 11:06

Morning! Yes positive official test but probably won’t relax until the heartbeat. To be fair, trigger shot is probably less important for you as it’s not IUI so the exact timing is less of a big deal? Fresh sperm lives for 5 days apparently! This sounds v promising! 2ww sucks. I’ll be thinking about you x

Just to close the loop-we had 4 follicles on 7.5 mg Letrozole. By ovulation only 1, maybe 2, looked mature. I hade my scan today - it’s a singleton pregnancy.

@CarpeDiem75 how are you doing? @bstrong0805 how are you getting on?

CarpeDiem75 · 27/09/2023 14:41

@Arthursmom I have been sick with a very bad stomach bug so not ideal during the tww waiting for my periods to start now as I have started to spot so it doesn't look it is my month again 😞 I am kind of losing hope but I am not the kind to get pregnant easily so I guess I just have to be patient.. again!!
So is it official you have seen a heartbeat? That's great news you must be so relieved. 😊

bstrong0805 · 27/09/2023 21:27

Hi all - TWW here too, let’s see how it goes and will keep you all updated. Only about 5dpo now so early days !

Arthursmom · 29/09/2023 19:52

@CarpeDiem75 that is awful luck! Yes, as you say, patience. Hopefully next cycle 🙏 yes, it’s official but I now have covid so we’ll see. Another scan in two weeks. @bstrong0805 🤞🏽 hopefully this month for you!

CarpeDiem75 · 29/09/2023 20:17

@Arthursmom oh that's amazing!! Not so good for Covid though hope you get better soon! They have increased my dosage to 7.5mg this cycle so let's see how it goes!
@bstrong0805 hopefully this is your month! Are you having an iui?

Arthursmom · 29/09/2023 21:14

bstrong0805 · 30/09/2023 08:19

@CarpeDiem75 yes had the IUI last Friday. I’m still on a 5mg dose but seems to be ok for me so far and good lining and follicle size for me. It’s just such a waiting game and a luck game isn’t it !!

CarpeDiem75 · 30/09/2023 18:47

@bstrong0805 hopefully these two weeks goes fast and you can see a positive 😊

CarpeDiem75 · 09/10/2023 12:12

Hi please can I join?

@Arthursmom congratulations! Lovely to hear good news.

@CarpeDiem75 I see you've been on this thread since the start, wishing you luck.

I have started letrozole this cycle for the first time and due to ovulate tomorrow (using LH sticks to track.

Had our dc 6 years ago and been ttc for 2 - 3 years. NHS have been really slow to help and when it was my gyne appointment I found out 2 weeks before we had managed to conceive. Unfortunately had a mmc and it was the most awful experience of my life. Got pregnant again several months after and got to my 8 week scan and all looking good with a heartbeat but another mmc soon after.
Then been trying again for about 16 months and nothing but periods have been messed up since second MVA which also left me with endometriosis so I had another referral to gyne and as a last chance I have been put on 5mg letrozole.

Are you ovulating later than usual those also on it?

I took it cd 2-6 and usually ovulate day 14/15 (when periods are there- sometimes they stop). Today is day 16 and I'm on a peak LH test.

CarpeDiem75 · 09/10/2023 23:23

@Anngin hi, I am really sorry for all your miscarriages.
For me Letrozole has actually reduced my cycles by a lot and I am more regular. Before I would ovulate between day 19 and 26! The last couple of months on Letrozole I was ovulating on day 14/15.
But I would not worry too much about when you ovulate all that matters is that your follicle has developed enough by the time you ovulate which is something a scan can confirm before ovulation.
Are you doing iui or timed intercourse?
Good luck xx

CarpeDiem75 · 10/10/2023 00:20

@Arthursmom how many scan are you having? Genetic testing is a good idea, do you get it done in the uk? how long do you have to wait for the results?
Hope it all goes well. Xx

Arthursmom · 10/10/2023 12:46

@Anngin gosh I’m so sorry. That’s such a long road. I hope Letrozole does the trick! Please keep us posted. I ovulated on the same timeline with Letrozole. I used to have 28 day cycles and ovulate around the 14/15th day but after my miscarriage my cycles were shorter at 25 days and I’d ovulate on the 11th or 12th day. The funny thing is, when I got pregnant with my son in 2020 without Letrozole it was on a rogue 25 day cycle as well (I ovulated on the 11th day). So it seems early ovulation works for me. I’ve given this a lot of thought and I’ve also always gotten pregnant in the months I was able to have a fertility massage. 3 pregnancies and 3 massages. Very strange! But who knows what does it. Wishing you luck 🍀

@CarpeDiem75 we had an extra scan because I felt so awful with the covid. We will have a 6 week, 7 week and 9 week with the blood draw for the testing. Then we will move onto the nhs. It’s just the Panorama NIPT test. We have the donors genetic profile and mine so that excludes most things then we do the NIPT panorama one. I think it take 5-7 working days to get the results. We also find out the sex. How did you find the trigger shot? I liked that it took all the guess work out of the timing 😂

OP posts:
CarpeDiem75 · 10/10/2023 14:20

@Arthursmom what is a pregnancy massage? At which stage of your cycle were you doing it? I am intrigued!!
Yeah definitely I was actually thinking of this earlier how it makes the guess work so much easier! Let's see if it works...I can feel my belly is about to explode though😂
Thanks for the info on the NIPT test. At my age a friend told me I should do it if I get pregnant... but I am not sure what difference it makes to know 10 weeks rather than 12 weeks?

Arthursmom · 10/10/2023 16:39

*fertility massage-it’s a massage you get anywhere from the end of your period to ovulation and it forces all the blood to your pelvic region.

NIPT is more accurate than the nhs combined test. The nhs test is about 82% accurate for downs and even less so for patau and Edwards. If either of these were suspected at the 12 week mark you would be offered a NIPT to confirm or a cvs or amnio for instance.totally a personal choice though!

CarpeDiem75 · 10/10/2023 21:58

@Arthursmom thanks that's good to know for the testing.
I will definitely check out these massages! I am doing acupuncture on the side which really helped my fertility, I would just not get pregnant at all as soon as I started I was pregnant 3 times (still ending as miscarriages but it did help)

Arthursmom · 11/10/2023 08:41

@CarpeDiem75 Ah yeah I do acupuncture too! Both at the same place actually. But I’d say the massages do it for me.

OP posts:
CarpeDiem75 · 23/10/2023 17:45

@Arthursmom Hope you got your results back and all is well... another failed cycle for me 😭😭 son onto the next one same dosage! I am tempted to try for iui but not sure if it would make a big difference...

Arthursmom · 25/10/2023 19:39

@CarpeDiem75 ahhhh no! I’m sorry. It’s so exhausting and consuming isn’t it?

We had a 9 weeks scan and all was well. We’re waiting for our results and are due our 12 week scan in 10 days. Hoping all remains well 🤞🏽

has your partners sperm been tested? Hard to know otherwise really. it’s great you’re on the same dose this month though! Hope you’re ok? X

CarpeDiem75 · 08/11/2023 22:21

@Arthursmom oh amazing I am so happy for you. Not sure I will ever see that stage again 😭 onto a new cycle for me. Not an easy one as this cycle I ended up with 4 mature follicles so the doctors didn't recommend me to proceed with intercourse but they let me choose. After long thoughts and taking
Into account my age and past we decided to still try, doesn't even mean I get even one so still nerve wrecking...I am so drained not sure how long I am gonna be able to carry on with all of this. I just want a baby!😞
