Letrozol/Femara

Hello,
I'm trying letrozol 5mg for iui but am unsure what to expect and google doesn't seem to have much info. Can anyone tell me how many follicles they produced on letrozol? I'm hoping for more than one but wonder if this is likely? I'm 37 and ovulate normally so this is just to boost chances. We are a same sex couple using frozen sperm.

@CarpeDiem75 how are you getting on? I’ve started the Letrozole and am on 7.5 mg. My first scan is on Saturday (day 9) so feeling quite nervous about that! Hoping I’ve produced something!

@Arthursmom oh that's so good 7.5mg, not sure why they don't give me more! Why did they not start with 5mg? Have they given you any reason? That's a cycle wasted for me .. I ended up ovulating last week on day 17 and my partner was not around ... so depressing 😭 I cross my fingers for you !!!

@CarpeDiem75 they want more than 1 follicle. I already ovulate so that’s not the issue, it’s egg quality. Will see what happens on Saturday… will they increase the dose after this next cycle?

@Arthursmom which clinic/hospital are you using? Seems a bit less useless than mine 🙈I don't get why as a private patient they don't want to do it for me... I will have to have a chat with them!

@CarpeDiem75 ah we went with a Danish clinic. I had a scan today and there are 4 follicles on day 7. I usually ovulate on day 11 or 12. They are 15.75/12.3/12.15/11.35 🤦🏽‍♀️ I need at least one to stop growing for them to go ahead. So we’ll see. I might have to skip this cycle.

@Arthursmom wow that's good your body is very responsive up the treatment! Is it 2 or 3 mature follicles you are able to proceed with?when are you going back for a scan? So you are the opposite you probably need less and I need more!🙈
Are you in Denmark? Are treatments expensive there too? Good luck!!

They would proceed with 3 I think 🤔 from the numbers the one that is still the dominant. I’ll see what happens on Saturday… we go there as it’s cheaper so we just fly out for the IUI. But also you can get a private prescription ?

Just thought I’ll share my experience. I have very late cycles and we have been TTC for 2 years. Started letrozole this month - o usually ovulated on day 20/22 but this time on CD12 we had two follicles both around 16mm. So took the trigger shot on day 14 and did an IUI on day 15. In the two week wait now. So for me it def shortened my cycles and made me ovulate sooner - 5mg dosage.

@bstrong0805 fingers 🤞🏽 for you! Thanks for sharing! I’ve had my scan today and the clinic think there are 3 follicles in the running-one big one and 2 smaller ones. The last one they don’t think is going to get there size wise. This is day 9 for me and the sizes are: 19/15/14 and 10mm. I will trigger tonight with IUI on Monday.

Thanks all! All done now so in the hands of the universe 🙌🏽 @CarpeDiem75 hope it goes well with the clinic. At time of ovulation my clinic think I only had 1, maybe 2 eggs so it’s not as though it’s that high a risk. Even at 7.5mg there’s only 1 for sure egg!

I also had only two big follicles on a 5mg dose so you never know. I did ovulate a good few days before usual though and with long cycles (34-35 days) I think the early ovulation was a good thing. Also in the TWW like you @Arthursmom so let’s see. Date to test is 8th September.

That's exciting.@Arthursmom when will you be testing?
I am still spotting and cramping on and off and no period yet... so frustrating I just want to move on and start a new cycle now!

@CarpeDiem75 have clinic agreed to up your meds? I guess in about 10 days time. I’m not a bit tester 😂 will see if AF turns out and fi from there

@Arthursmom they have not yet as they have told me to speak to the doctor again at the beginning of my cycle! 🤞
I know the feeling about testing I always test when I am pretty sure I am to avoid any disappointment !!
Did it work the first time around last time you used letrozole? I really hope for you this is your month!!! It will give me hope ☺️

@CarpeDiem75 i didn’t actually use Letrozole last time. When I got pregnant with my son it was an all natural IUI cycle and worked on the second try. This time I also got pregnant on the second try with just the trigger shot but I miscarried at 5 weeks.

@Arthursmom so I have just been to my appointment and they have increased my dosage to 5mg. Hopefully it will have an effect this time. I have n'y check up scan on the 11th. How are you feeling so far?

@CarpeDiem75 thats great news! Let me know how the scan goes. Will keep fingers crossed. I’m feeling alright. Trying not to symptom spot as I’d drive myself nuts.

@Arthursmom how are you doing ? Any symptoms? Just been to the clinic today and got two follicule 17 and 12mm so I will go back on Wednesday and will trigger if I didn't ovulate by then.

Hey! Wow that’s an improvement right? We’ve had positive tests and official test day is tomorrow. Sore boobs, a little nausea when I’m hungry and now headaches. I miscarried around this time a few months ago so we’re not getting our hopes up but the trigger shot has definitely worked for us twice in a row now! I hope it works for you too x

Congrats!! That's amazing!!! I hope you are right for the trigger shot I have never had it! Hopefully I will make it and won't ovulate before!
Hope it all goes well for you from now on but I know the worry of the first few weeks until we can see a heartbeat.Let me know how you are doing xx
