Hi, I had to have a termination on 31 March due to medical reasons. I was only 7 weeks and had been unknowingly taking prescribed meds harmful to a developing pregnancy, contraception failed.
I was told I would be fertile afterwards and we have decided that after everything we would in fact like a baby. Termination was confirmed successful with internal ultrasound, but the ultrasound tech said it looked like my endometrium? Was thickend so I could have possibly caught again. (Been having unprotected sex as wanted to conceive) - this was on Friday 30th July- preg test was v faint lines, she told me to wait till this coming Friday and test again to see if it’s darker..
I obviously couldn’t wait and have caved and done one past 3 days and they’re all faintly positive, but don’t seem to be getting any darker. I wish I would have waited! No sign of af.
I guess I’m asking, do you think it could be leftover hormone or a new preg? Driving myself mad now! Makes no diff if it’s fmu or afternoon still faint regardless atm.. last time we bd was 16th June, but had done so a couple of times prior from the 8th, hoping my dates aren’t too off and I’m still in with a chance! Obviously due to termination I don’t know when I ovulated or when I’m due a period. Sorry for the essay.
thanks!

Sorry you've been through what you've been through. I had TFMR in December, and tested positive for about 6-7 weeks, and from my understanding that was quite long in comparison to the average. I did have prolonged bleeding and then a scan to ensure no retained products which thankfully there wasn't, and stopped testing positive around the same time as stopping bleeding.

I would be very surprised if you are still testing positive from end of March TFMR? Especially if you have had a scan and all looks clear in terms of pregnancy tissue.

Could it be that this is now a chemical pregnancy? I hope not, but strange that tests aren't getting darker.

Sorry I can't help much but there's probably not a whole lot you can do other than wait - wait to see if your tests change, or wait a bit longer to have an early pregnancy scan so that something would be visible.

Good luck.

@pebbles3004 Thank you for your reply. I’m sorry you’ve been through that too, prolonged bleeding is a nightmare when you just want it to be over. Yes I thought it would have been too long to still be from my prev pregnancy but the midwife told me not to test till Friday so it’s my own fault really! Waiting is so hard isn’t it, hoping it’s not a chemical. I hope you get your desired outcome if you haven’t already! Thank you again

Ah well in that case it could be left over hormone - that's only 5 weeks ago. I was testing positive at this point too. However I has prolonged bleeding which I assumed was related to the positive tests... when did you stop bleeding?

Zara1234uk · 04/07/2023 20:08

Sorry I’m so dozy! I stopped bleeding after about 8 days, just had some oldish brown spotting (sorry tmi) for another few days maybe? Was all done by the 13th june with any bleeding anyway as I was away so I remember. I just have no idea when I ovulated ect so it’s anyone’s guess I suppose. Just with the ultrasound tech saying it looked promising I think I’ve got my hopes up! Also have massive boobs which had gone down after termination and are bigger again now so probably just clutching at straws

Do you know which day you normally ovulate on, to know how many DPO you would be? If you only stopped bleeding a month ago and are pregnant now, it would be very early days and maybe a reason why your tests are so faint.

I think all you can do is wait and retest in a few days again. Good luck

Zara1234uk · 05/07/2023 12:48

To be honest no not really as we weren’t actually trying at that time, my prev preg were ivf. I have a regular 28/29 day cycle usually but there’s no telling this month. Yes I’m just going to have to wait! And stop driving myself mad. I haven’t tested today will test Friday. Thank you for your help

Just incase anyone is reading this I still have the faintest lines when I test, was hoping to see a darker one. Will check tomorrow and do a digital but not holding out much hope tbh

Sorry you're no clearer. I would also ring your GP to see if they would refer you for a scan. Or try and ring EPU to see if they will see you directly... I know some are a bit funny about seeing people really early on though.

Zara1234uk · 06/07/2023 20:51

Yeah I think I might, going to do a digital tomorrow morning with fmu and will take it from there. I’ve just made the mistake of doing a one step just now which was totally negative I think so doesn’t look promising, thank you for replying

Update- I have done a one step pipette test which was negative and a clear blue digital that read not pregnant so I guess it’s been leftover hormone. Still no af but I think I’m out now anyway as we last had unprotected 21 days ago. Just wish it would hurry up now. My pregnancies have always been ivf until my one I had tfmr so it’s all been a bit of a shock. Thanks for reading! Good luck to all.
