Boots Test and Early Miscarriage

Hi ladies,

Can anyone confirm the sensitivity of Boots strip tests (I’ve thrown the packaging away by mistake).

In short, I had an early miscarriage with the bleeding starting on 19th June for 4 days and had bloods done for HCG on 27th June which confirmed my HCG was at 20.

I’ve just done another test (PM urine so after lots of drinks) and it’s still positive, albeit lighter but I would have expected it to not pick this up by now if my levels were 20 five days ago!

The bottom test is the one I’ve done just now.

@dancingdaisies Its only the last three since the bleeding started, the last one being the one today as I was advised by EPU to take a test to make sure it’s gone back to negative, so not torturing here don’t worry :)

I just wanted to know the sensitivity of them, as I’m confused as to why it’s positive when 5 days ago my HCG was only at 20

They'll likely be 10. You'll need to tell them you've still had a slight positive abd they might need to re scan you if you don't get a negative .

Please bear in mind that darkness of lines doesn't indicate hormone levels, as many people think. I.e. A darker line doesn't necessarily mean that a pregnancy is progressing.

Please be gentle to yourself ❤️

@sarahc336 Ah ok! I did have a scan on 27th which is when they confirmed the miscarriage and said everything had passed and just to test again to make sure it was negative. I’ll call them tomorrow then x

@WeeOrcadian Oh no I know that, but I have to test to make sure it’s negative by which I thought it would have by more, baring in mind I was on 20 on 27th x

So sorry for your loss @DHB I had a mmc in April. Followed by retained tissue and I've only last week finally got a negative test. It can take longer than we think for the pregnancy hormone to be non detectable. Hope you're doing ok.

@Stephy1024 Gosh that’s a long wait for you :( Sorry for your loss and sending you all the baby dust xx

It really was. In a way I'm glad to be feeling back to normal if that makes sense. Thank you. You too my love. X

@DHB im so sorry for your loss. I had a mmc last April because my body didn’t notice. I bled I love through the april, so much they were worried I had retained tissue (wasn’t visible on the scan). I had bloods and they said I didn’t need more tablets because my hcg was 0

I took tests at the end of may (frer) and got lines despite not being pregnant and them telling me a month before it was 0. I’ve wondered if it was a CP but realistically I think lingering levels was the most likely outcome. It tapered off more and more over the coming weeks after that

DHB · 04/07/2023 09:06

Well I’ve just had my negative test this morning, so hoping I ovulate in the next week or so as I would have been due to ovulate at the end of this week anyway 🤞🏼

@KittyAllTheWay Sorry to hear of your MC. It’s a horrible time as it is, without the constant reminder of lingering positive tests :(

Thank you all for your support and hope your all get your rainbows soon xx

@DHB yes and the uncertainty because your head wonders if it’s a new one. I’m sorry it was a proper negative test but fingers crossed for a nice fresh start for you now and another go. I hope you’re doing ok x

DHB · 04/07/2023 09:13

@KittyAllTheWay Exactly that, there are so many emotions aren’t there :(

I’m sort of happy with the negative as I’m just pleased that the HCG has gone down enough for us to try again xx
