Multiple faint tests, "spotting" and then...? Can I hope for a 'proper' BFP?

I know the answer is that time will tell, but I'm impatient and frustrated with my body/lack of clarity, so I'm wondering whether anyone else has experienced this and what the outcome was?

I had a positive squinter of a test at 10 dpo. Then some interesting orange tinted discharge at 12 dpo. Today, 14 dpo I have had a small amount of slightly brown/old blood tinged discharge (not really spotting, but noticeably different to usual discharge) and some crampiness but no period (yet...!). Still getting squinters on tests (different brands) every day, but the line(s) haven't got any stronger.

Has anyone gone on to have a 'proper' BFP/successful pregnancy following a similar situation? I'm hoping that (if the discharge and crampiness is due to implantation) I'm still in with a chance... I didn't have any implantation spotting/tests like this with either of my previous pregnancies, so this is uncharted territory...

Bumping for you @Poppins2016
But also to add some people's tests take a while to get a strong positive so fingers crossed it happens soon for you 🤞

Thanks for bumping @PR96!
I keep trying to remind myself of that... especially as I seem to have had (what I hope) are symptoms of implantation, which I guess means it's still very early days for generating hormones = not to expect line progression just yet... it's annoying because I have so many symptoms and feel 'off', have had squinters of lines on different brands, yet no real evidence and no reassurance that it'll 'stick'... I'll be gutted if this turns out to be a chemical pregnancy (which I suspect). On the plus side, my BBT this morning was still in line with being pregnant vs dropping (in line with period), so I'm allowing myself some hope on that front! (Side note, woke up at 4 am so had to take it early... grr).

I had quite late positives with my first (after my period was expected and after I'd had implantation cramps so strong I thought they were my period, so drank wine and had a really hot bath to ease the pain 🙄) but no spotting etc. With my second I tested positive at 8 dpo and because that's my more recent experience I guess that's probably the one I was hoping for?!

Bumping to catch the morning crowd...

A little more cramping, a little more ever so slightly 'old blood tinged' discharge and one more only slightly positive squinter of a test (IC, not planning to waste an expensive one for a while)... sigh!

So.... following my very faint squinter of a line this morning on an IC I also did an LH test for the hell of it which came up surprisingly strong (i.e. stronger than the pregnancy test), which shouldn't happen... (if pregnant, LH test would be fainter than the HCH test). I've done a bit of research which seems to indicate that LH can cause a false positive on an HCG test (same as HCG can cause a faint line on an LH test)... I've been spotting quite heavily all day and I suspect that my hormones are out of whack and I've just had an anovulatory cycle (that or a chemical pregnancy, but I think the anovulatory cycle is more likely based on the LH test result). Hopefully I'll have a decent bleed and then my next cycle will be normal(ish) again. I might get in touch with my GP and run through it with them, as well as ask for Metformin to try to regulate everything (I have PCOS)... I'm rather disappointed but at least I feel as though I know what's going on!

@Poppins2016 not sure if it helps but my LH tests were far darker than my pregnancy tests! I did an LH test every morning I did a pregnancy test and it was the same throughout xx

Dummycrusher · 02/07/2023 18:21

My understanding is that you would get a blazing positive on an LH test if you were preggo

PR96 · 02/07/2023 18:23

@Poppins2016 my LH tests were also really dark when I had positive HCGs last time.. I'll try and remember to do an LH in the morning with a hcg for you!

Daisychain333 · 02/07/2023 18:33

@Poppins2016 your post is so interesting, as I’ve basically been experiencing very similar! Very faint line on a cheap test 8 days ago, then the next day some red bleeding, just once. Then a week later a very faint barely there line but not period.

also had peak LH on cheap tests the day I got the very faint positive on the HCG test

I’ve very confused, I would have thought my period would be here now but have continued with LH tests in case I’m just not having one this month.

its also annoying because I’m mean to be having a day 21 blood test in July but I didn’t know when to book in because everything is out of whack!

have you seen any line progression?

Poppins2016 · 02/07/2023 20:52

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate your responses! 🌸

This is really interesting... I thought a line on an LH test would be much fainter than a line on an HCG test at this point (if pregnant)... So, there's evidence to the contrary?!

When I got my BFP with my last baby I did an LH test for the hell of it and got a line, but it wasn't blazing (I'm pretty sure it was less strong than the hcg test).

@PR96 I'd love to see your tests in the morning, thank you!

@Daisychain333 oh my goodness, sounds as though we're very much in the same boat, I really feel for you!

... my 'spotting' which I assumed would turn into a full on period/bleed is still just spotting, which is unusual for me (even with anovulatory cycles).

Maybe I'll attempt another "6 days early" test in the morning... but I'll be 16 dpo by then so would hope a test would be clearer by now?! Odd thing is that my BBT seems to still indicate ovulation and a triphasic shift... I have no idea what to think?!

This morning I've woken up to a slight temperature dip, bright red bleeding, no line on the HCG test and a fainter line on the LH (tested both out of curiosity again). Hopefully whatever this bleeding is will reset everything and the next cycle will be a good one...

I'll make a GP appointment, too... should have done that before TTC but I guess I hoped that we'd be lucky (not sure why, I needed metformin to conceive both my previous pregnancies, but I guess there's always a chance...)
