Two lh surges this cycle??

Hello!

i’ve been ovulation testing using clear blue advanced and easy@home/premom strips (clear blue in morning and strips in the afternoon)

I got my usual flashing smileys for a few days then a static smiley on cd 16 which corresponded perfectly with the strip tests darkening then turning positive.

with the clearblue digital you can’t test/it tells you not to after static smiley which stays on the screen for two days and with the strips I usually test for a couple of days until the go back faint and then stop for the rest of the month as not to waste them as I assumed they would stay low.

this month I decided to test with the strips for the rest of the month as I was curious and this is where it gets weird!

the tests at my “first” peak stayed strong for two days as usual and then went down after presumed ovulation as normal and were really faint for two days then last night (cd20) I took one and it was super dark, not peak but as close to peak as I usually get before peak - I also took it at 10pm so feel like if I’d taken it earlier in the day it could have been peak.

this morning i took another that was still dark again and looks like it’s slightly coming down as it would if I had peaked. I’ll test again this afternoon as easy@home say not to test in morning but usually when I’m peaking it’s dark at any time.

is this normal?? Should I be having another surge?? Has this happened to anyone else??

does this mean I didn’t ovulate the first time and it’s trying again or is it possible to ovulate twice? Or is a fluctuation expected?

so confused! I feel like nothing is ever straight forward :(

It's more than likely that you didnt ovulate the first time so you've had another surge because of your body trying again to ovulate x

PinkMandalorian · 30/06/2023 14:07

It sounds like you didn't ovulate properly the first time and your body is trying to go again. It's quite common actually.
Rarely, ovulation can happen twice

I surged multipled times this cycle before I finally ovualted

thank you for your responses.

so frustrating because we’ve been doing the SMEP and had been going for it to the point where we’ve almost run out of steam now I feel like we just have to keep going!

is there a chance I won’t even ovulate this month if it didn’t work the first time?

is there any chance I did ovulate the first time and this is just a fluctuation as it wasn’t quite “positive peak”? Just weird for it to go up so high after already having a strong positive peak for 2 days this cycle!

@PinkMandalorian thank you for sharing your experience. How did you know you finally ovulated, are you temping? Does it affect the luteal phase as this is much later than I would usually ovulate!

I had similar this past month and still haven’t had my period. Does anyone know if you don’t ovulate do you not always get a period?

PinkMandalorian · 30/06/2023 16:39

@Laylattc I had a scan at the fertility clinic and they were able to tell that the follicle looked like it had literally just ruptured. I ovulated late this cycle, and had been fluctuating LH for over a week before it finally popped.
A strong peak dosent mean your ovulating. It just means your releasing more of the hormone LH which the surge is then responsible for releasing the egg. You can get a positive ovulation test but not actually release the egg. It's called an anovulation cycle .

So basically I may ovulate this cycle I may not and I have no way of knowing either way.

I understand ovulation tests only show the surge and it doesn’t mean 100% you’ve ovulated but getting two surges this cycle makes me feel that it’s more likely that I’m not going to ovulate at all which is far more depressing than just having the one surge and feeling ovulation pain and hoping for the best after going at it with everything you can think of.

I don’t know how much more I can take of this every month, all I want in the world is a baby and I just feel like every month there’s something that goes against me even more whilst everyone around me are popping out babies left right and centre.

@Laylattc I totally get your frustration lovely . I've been trying 18 years and there have been so many times that I've said to myself I'm done. It just consumes your whole life. Dealing with infertility is that hardest thing I've ever been through in my life. It really takes every little bit of strength I have to keep going.

How long have you been trying?

Laylattc · 03/07/2023 13:43

Thank you for sharing your experience @PinkMandalorian 18 years must be so tough. How long have you been under the fertility clinic? I’m going to speak to my gp after this month if I’m negative again as I feel something is wrong post miscarriage as I had a lot of complications during and from it. How long it’s been for you put things into perspective a little and I really really hope you get your positive soon xx

I had a traumatic miscarriage at the end of last year and then wasn’t allowed to try again for several months I’m now on my 4th month since I’ve been allowed and 3rd actively ovulation testing and trying every method possible but I desperately want back what I lost. Every month I get my period it’s like I’m reliving the trauma all over again and it’s too much for me.

i don’t understand what’s happening this month, I still had a “high” test yesterday. The lines are super dark but the apps not registering them as high as they look but still got a zigzag chart and don’t know what it means. It’s still not reached peak but higher than its ever been after ovulation and higher than it usual is right before I get my peak. The apps still putting ovulation at my first surge but I don’t know what to think anymore :(

i’ve attached the chart if anyone at all can make sense of it.

Two lh surges this cycle??
